"Circumcision may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer, according to a new study published in the journal Cancer.

A new analysis of 3,399 men found that those who were circumcised before their first sexual encounter saw a "significant" 15 percent decreased risk of developing prostate cancer compared with men who were uncircumcised or circumcised after the first time they had sex.

While the study raises some questions about circumcision and prostate cancer development, more research than an observational study is needed.

"The more we learn about prostate cancer, the more we see it is a multi-factorial disease," said Brooks. "This is looking at an issue 50 years down the line after getting circumcised, and parents should keep in mind cultural beliefs and concerns more than cancer risk when making the decision." "

Been there, done that, didn't help.

OH WAIT ! It had to be before first sexual encounter. Farkin bad luck, I started too early on my sexual journey.

Or waited too late for the operation. Either way I got screwed.

didn't help me or my brother. circumcised before we knew what it was and both of us have PC...

Most men are circumcised right after they are born, at least here in the U.S. So who would have their first sexual encounter, then get circumised? Thought that was odd wording.

Doesnt matter for me, I was never snipped, nor my sons, and we come from a long line of no-snip men. Thus far, I am the only known example of men in our family with PC.

Don't think this single facet, true or false, would make me loose any sleep.

Every man with PC, has either breathed air or drank water in their life, that's a 100% certainty with the data, lol.

I think we all get tired of hearing these so called contributing factors for prostate cancer. I was circumcised before my first sexual encounter, never had an STD, never heard of anyone in my family with the disease (father (lived to 94), uncles, grandfathers (both lived to late 80's), brother), never had any symptoms of prostate disease. But, WAIT, I did have epididymitis. That's it. If you ever had epididymitis, you will probably get prostate cancer. LOL.

there is another study relating to the relationship to circumcised men and reduction in getting AIDS compared to non-circumcised men.

- so this may be along the same line of -
therefore:
NON-circumcised men are more apt to develop STD's and STD's can trigger PCa
so
NON-circumcised men are more apt to develop _______________________PCa

-more alphabet soup time ....

I'm not sure this is a new idea, as I'm pretty sure one of my very first posts was about circumcision and PCa.
Has the study followed all the men till they died and then autopsied all of them to see if they had PCa? Otherwise what method and data have they used?

Yes, I can understand the idea that a circumcised penis can reduce the risk of catching (some) STDs, but the study would seem to be implying that STDs can cause PCa without isolating the mechanism. (Such as with the HPV virus and cervical cancer)

How have they accounted for those guys (like me) with foreskins who wash properly?
Has the study allowed for condom use given condom use also reduces STDs?
And has the study detected reduced incidence of PCa among those groups in Society that are circumcised?

Anyway I did not just go to the bathroom and look down at a little bit of skin and blame it for anything.

I'm guessing that I could get a good correlation between men who breathe and men who are diagnosed with PCa.  (i.e. 99.9% of the men diagnosed with prostate cancer are breathing).  Does that mean breathing, or the presence of a forskin, causes cancer?
