16 week Psa up

I failed to post my first postop PSa which was 0.01 in January. Just got results at 16 weeks...Psa 0.06. Not reassuring with a gleason 9. Surprised that I received the results over the phone, but it came up as they were rescheduling my appt . Apparently the surgeon wasn't in the office the initially scheduled day, which leads me to believe the Psa warrants seeing the doc vs his PA (whom I've seen the majority of visits).

Here's hoping it's just a momentary blip. Keep us posted.

Speaking as another G9, I completely agree with JNF -- find an oncologist who specializes in prostate cancer and has handled a lot of cases. Doctors such as Dr. Charles Myers in Virginia, Dr. Mark Scholz in California, Dr. Oliver Sartor in Louisiana, and others have handled thousands of cases and know what to do. Most local oncologists deal primarily with breast or other cancers and aren't familiar with the intricacies and modalities of this disease. I've seen some of these and had shockingly bad experiences because of their lack of knowledge. Fortunately, I consult with Dr. Scholz and so I have been able to overcome their deficiencies.

And now is the time to act. With G9, the specialist oncologists aren't waiting for a large PSA rise to take action. Studies have shown that radiation treatments are most effective if done before the PSA even gets to .1. In my case, my PSA rose to .03, and when confirmed with another test, I was deemed to have recurred -- by three oncologists. I don't know about your other stats, but if you had positive margins, your doctor probably should have had you doing radiation as soon as you recovered from your surgery.

G9 can be deadly if not handled right. Don't delay for any reason, and get the best oncologist you can find.
