First, Welcome to HW. We'd just as soon you didn't need to be here, but the door is
open
There are a number of guys here who have done RT & HT as primary. I hope that they will speak up fairly quickly. I did surgery as primary, and RT as secondary (HT is in the pipe for me, but was not done before).
RT has a lot of minimal side effects early on, but the guys I met who were doing it as primary were a lot better off than me, although most were in their 70's. The down side is that some SEs are years down the road. I'm now suffering radiation cystitis, which means that my bladder and urethra look like the face of a 16 year old with horrible acne, and this kicked in 18 months after RT finished.
The other major SEs I have are related to earlier surgeries, so are not applicable as experience for a primary guy.
You will be urged, if not badgered, to get multiple opinions before you make a treatment choice, and I agree with that (I talked to no less than 10 docs in more or less formal situations).
Taking the time to make a measured decision is always suggested.
My RT journey is linked in my signature below.
Again, Welcome to the club no one wants to be a member of.
