MUSE Caverject BiMix TriMix - VA

I've spoken to a few of my fellow GFMPH'ers on this and wanted to open my question up to all our brothers and sisters.

So yup - one of the gifts of Prostate Cancer and Hormone Treatment is ED. No surprise there. I've finally decided I'm going to do something about that.

I tried Cialis and Viagra - Not a thing. So its time to go to the heavy guns here. From all I understand the next things to try and MUSE Caverject Bimix and Trimix.

I spoke with my VA Urologist when I was in there last, was a very quick in the hallway discussion so we did not cover that much.

First Question - This one for any one else who is receiving care via the VA. - Does _your_ VA provide Bimix and or Trimix? When I asked my doc he said those are out as the VA does NOT provide either.

Second Question - MUSE - GFMPH'ers I really respect told me in their experience MUSE is like sticking a red hot poker up inside you. SHUDDERS! Does anyone have any positive experiences with MUSE?

Third Question - Caverject - Experiences with?

My insurance will not cover trimix either or any other ED drug. Trimix is by far the most economical way to go for out of pocket cost per injection. I buy a 5ml vial of the double strength version for $102. If kept in the freezer it has a shelf life of 3 to 4 months. I use about .3ml per injection which means I get about 16 doses per vial or $6.37 per injection. When I was buying the single strength which most guys seem to be OK with, it was $60 per vial.  Muse and Caverject cost for me about $25-$30 per use. If Muse and Caverject do not work and  if the VA will give you the scrip for Trimix it is not that expensive.

Not VA, but I did discover that my (big huge national) insurance does not cover TRIMIX, so they refused my Rx. The pharmacist worked with them, and discovered there is some coverage if the ED is directly linked to surgery or an accident, and he forwarded information about my surgery. You would think that they knew about it (they paid a lot of bills). It seemed that a healthcare professional had to declare the two events to be related on a specific form.

At the same time, it would not be covered for RT guys who developed issues over time, because RT is not surgery. Insurance is a nightmare.

 

Muse only worked for me once in the 3 times I tried it so |I moved on to Trimix with a prescription from mu urologist.I'm Canadian and he said oh I did not think they used trimix anymore so I got similar drug for injection which is in Canada.Still have not tried it as I am waiting for the ambi- ject device from amazon.com.It is suppose to be easier to inject yourself.But will be here soon so will give details as per my experience.

I've used MUSE a lot and mostly with no excessive ache. But at levels that are needed for a good hour of erection you'll probably get some ache.

One thing I found thru experimentation is that the darn little pellet of MUSE, because it is concentrated in one spot (and infuses out from there) does cause some burning sensation. What I do with my MUSE now is dissolve it (one pellet in 5 ml bacteriastatic water) and use it nightly as a rehab method. At 1/5 dose it does not get up to really usable levels (that's what Trimix is for) but it is really great to go to bed with a substantial hand-hold for the Missus on every night of the month, not just every other day or whatever. And no ache whatsoever at lower doses. Even if 1/2 stength -- because it is dissolved and fills the urethra up and down it is so spread out that there is no ache or burn or anything. Something to consider if MUSE is your only option -- dividing up each pellet to double or triple the number of 'splooshes'.

I pay $60 for a 6 pack of MUSE (per month) so it is no big deal cost-wise to keep the prescription going. (retail is a breathtaking $300 -- which is ridiculous -- so unless you get good insurance coverage then forget about MUSE.

On VA not dealing in Trimix or Bimix. I think it mostly comes down to both of those not being FDA approved. VA is pretty anal about not prescribing non FDA drugs I think -- easier for a big bureaucracy like the VA to Just Say No to non-FDA drugs I am sure.

Trimix is so cheap maybe you could just go to a private practice Uro and get the prescription there. Might be a little costly for the appointments but after that it would just be out of pocket cost for the Trimix. Usually pretty cheap.
