I finished 45 sessions of IMRT + Calypso 2 weeks ago. This was 1.8 Gy/day, so the total was 81 Gy. This was a wide pelvic treatment with a prostate boost 2/3 way through. I guess this standard for my staging and as a primary treatment. I sailed through with very little side effects. My stamina on my cycling dipped a little about
week 6, but I continued cycling every day all the way through treatment. I have a little increased frequency in urination, increasing from once a night to 2-3 times a night, but that is starting to drop off to normal. The 8 weeks of daily sessions was mostly routine. My wife was there almost all days lending support, which really helped. The hardest part for me was seeing people with very serious cancers and really feeling for them. The hardest were the children who had to be wheeled in under sedation for their treatment. This was a real heart-breaker for me. I did make friends with a couple guys with throat cancer. That is a tough treatment area and the SE were significant for them. I started to feel a little guilty. If you are interested, I found a video on youtube describing my RT machine.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSgnWfbEx1A&feature=relatedI finished the active part of the 6 month clinical trial, and have been weaned off Abiraterone and Prednisone. I will remain on HT, (Lupron), for 2-3 years. I have not felt a change since stopping Abiraterone/Prednisone. I will be doing 3 month follow-ups for the next 2 years.
My latest PSA was < 0.03 and my Testosterone is 1 ng/dL. That's right, T is 1! Anyone beat that? :)
