I am three years post treatment and recently learned my proton therapy may not have been wholly successful.I am researching options.

I am scheduled for a choline scan on July 12th at Mayo Clinic. The attraction of this scan is its ability to detect Pca at very low levels where ever it may exist throughout the body. A consultation with a Mayo physican will immediately follow the scan to discuss results and treatment options.

I am also researching hormone therapy with a current focus on Dr Bob Liebowitz and his various protocols.

I would very much appreciate any words of wisdom, suggestions or comments you care to offer. If someone out there has had a good outcome with any form of salvage therapy, I certainly would be interested in hearing from you.

Sounds like you are wisely looking into all you can and you probably know the questions and the answers are always in the balance. Probably some guys herein can expound on their salvage journies and how it is going, perhaps some of the most successful patients stop posting on forums and go about normal day to day things and we may not hear from them. If you are not familar with www.yananow.net   it is a great website with info and around 1,000 patient history journies that you can search and see others results and maybe contact them via an email linked.

You might like to browse the Paact Newsletter for newer findings in PCa things, on line has a pdf file you can see publications anytime www.paactusa.org 

www.Prostatepointers.org has sub groups of PCa patients join and share info and discussions, you might find something there too.

www.ustoo.org  (has national/local support groups if that might be of interest)

Hi Lstgudun,

I'm sorry to hear that you have to consider salvage treatment. Just this morning I watched a video by Dr. Kwon of Mayo about their C-Choline PET scan which made me realize what a change this scan will bring to those who experience recurrence. Here's the video:

It made me realize that perhaps I was too quick to pull the trigger on my adjuvant/salvage radiation treatment. Since the scan can be effective when the PSA has reached 1.0, and is especially useful if the PSA is rapidly rising, it makes sense to find the target before pulling the trigger instead of taking out the shotgun first thing. It may have saved me radiation and hormone therapy if the source of recurrence could have been located. The rational for going to RT right away was based on studies that indicated better results were obtained if the RT was started before PSA has risen to .1. But I'm thinking now that the new scan obviates those old studies, when there was no hope of isolating the cancer and seeing if it was focal-metastatic instead of systemic-metastatic.

I hope they find a tiny spot of recurrence for you that can treated.

An internet friend called my attention to the Kwon tape. The tape prompted me into pursueing the scan.Sounds as though you have more than your fair share. Hope you are doing reasonably well at this point,

Most years I am able to coax a few walleye out of Little Bay De Noc.

Born and raised in Escanaba. Now that's about as close to Little Bay de Noc and you can get without falling in. Why don't you email me. We might even know each other. I sure hope the PSA remains low as well. Probably will continue to be "Anxious" for a long time. Good luck hope to hear from you.

Live near Lansing. Love the U.P. Go to Sterlings Resort in Rapid River most every year. When there we usually make it to Hereferd and Hopps a couple of times. Missed this year completely thus far because of my research effort .
Most of us with this dreaded disease remain a bit anxious.

I think the thread can take it. Wish you continued good luck and good health. We are all "anxious" to hear how you are doing. Especially the Proton people as we could be in the same boat. My understanding is the surgery is more difficult if the chemistry betrays us. So we hope if there is a hot spot it can be zapped. Take care. Oh, left Escanaba about 27 years ago for more sun and less snow. My sister lives hear Rapid River. I don't get there often as the logistics are terrible.
