Surgery yesterday home today

Just got home today from the hospital. Yeah the catheters a real pain. My wife and I are trying to improvise with bags to carry it in.

Surgery went well. The doctor says he believes he got it all. Pathology report and removal of the catheter will be Monday.
Pain is subsiding every couple of hours. I drink 6-8 bottles of water every day. I walk 15 minutes every 2 hours.

We are staying in a hotel across the street from the hospital here in Celebration FL. We live 3 hours away in So. Florida so we a making a vacation of it. 10 minutes from Disneywold but we aren't visiting it this trip.

Bye for now, it wasn't' as bad as I thought it would be. Glad to be on the otherside now.

I had to smile, though, at the thought you're in "Celebration," FL.  Well, I guess you can celebrate your successful surgery and march onward to a full and quick recovery!

Welcome to the other side Bill. Glad to read that all went well thus far. Now just take it easy and let things heal a bit.

If they didn't warn you that your balls may swell to the size of a Texas Ruby Red grapefruit, they may. Scared the life of of me at about day 4 or 5.

An old laptop computer bag with the strap at full out might do the job for the cath bag. I had an old messenger bag that I realized later was perfect.

Hi Bill, Welcome to the other side! Ain't life grand?

I had a large night bag that hung beside the bed. In the day I switched it to a smaller bag that strapped to my calf (either leg) and went under my pant leg. Quite perfect. Sounds to me like you're trying to be mobile with the big bag. I'd suggest you call the hospital and see about getting a leg bag. Worked 100% for me.

Congrats and welcome to the other side! Now its onto recovery for you. Nice and slow, the tortoise wins the race.

BigMac, welcome to the other side. Hope recovery goes smooth and in a week the cath comes out.For me when the cath came out I felt like I was set free and wanted to get back to everyday living,even went back to work part time estimating jobs which required hitting the pavement in downtown Philly(two weeks post surgery).Ha, that only lasted for two days then I landed back to the urologist thinking I gave myself a hernia, which I didn't but was told to take it easy for a couple more weeks.

Moral of the story is to take time for healing and don't rush it.

Leg bag is a good idea. Instead of hospital, call your pjysician's office for a scrip, and pick one up at a decent pharmacy or a medical supply store. It's cheaper and with a scrip your insurance should pay for it.

My nurses suggested that I stay on the big (night) bag. They advise that the bags are intended as single use, and to clean then to the point required to change and reuse them was not practical for me to handle in the shape I was in. The insurance only allowed two big bags, one leg bag.

The nurse reminded me that the doctor, who said "sure, no problem", was not going to be there at the ER at 3 am when I showed up in screaming pain because of a uti from a less than clean bag change.

I stayed on the big bag. Before the cath was out, walking any distance was torture anyway, so the walks were brief.
