For those of you who have been asking, I'm back with a 2012 update! 

I am thrilled to report that we have once again been declared "Clear for a Year" (meaning we're on the one-year follow up plan) post brachytherapy procedure of 2006.  We celebrated with a nice dinner downtown after the visit to the cancer specialist at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.

Thanks everyone.  Honestly, I cannot believe we started this journey in December of 2005, surgery in 2006 and we're now in 2012.

When my husband called with the update - I, of course, asked for the PSA number.  He said "I stopped listening after he said 0., that's all I needed to hear".

Continued blessings to all of you who have supported up through this journey and to those of you beginning or continuing your journey - this is a wonderful, supportive forum that I would have been lost without and I am only to happy to be a part of.

You have no idea how much your old original posts were of help to us when we started our own journey and were digging for all and anything ‘Brachytherapy’.

I am just truly grateful to have found this forum when I did.  I think people should know all the options (and at that time there were only three choices - surgery, brachytherapy or external beam) - look how far we've come!

I was away on vacation and looking at colleges for my son, starting his senior year in high school and missed your post.

Great news! I hope you enjoyed your celebration. Thanks for your posts. It's always good to hear news like yours here at HW.

Thanks Gleason 6 - and congratulations to your son as he heads out into the next leg of his journey - been there, done that - bittersweet moment.  The only thing that got me through was knowing that I had done the best I could to instill a good moral compass that I hoped would guide him well (that my words of wisdom  - "if you're ever unsure if you should do something ask yourself "would I do this is my mom was here?"").

Bittersweet is a great way to describe it. He is a great kid. I just want to enjoy this year with him as much as possible. I know it will go quickly. He is on the basketball team and I remember all to well senior night last year where they senior basketball players go out with their parents at halftime, and talking to one of the dads who was saying "How did it get here so quickly?" I will miss him, yet that is a parents job, to let them fly on their own. (I am kind of getting chocked up just writing this.) I am looking forward to some "us" time with my wife though...but that's 4 years from now when my daughter graduates.

Yep, bittersweet it was but guess what - he was back at Thanksgiving for a home cooked meal and also guess what - my "yucky" meatloaf had graduated to a gourmet meal - guess he was sick of Kraft Dinner and began to realize how good he had it - again a sign they are growing up and able to make it on their own.  I sent one kid away and got a new kid back - all in a good way - doesn't mean it didn't hurt to to walk away from the dorm the first night but BEST THING I EVER DID and he agrees ....

Grins - I used the same advice with our girls "if you're ever unsure if you should do something ask yourself "would I do this is my mom was here?"").

Worked out very well , we are very very proud of our daughters
