Daughters - Coming here to search for information to help their Dads

They tell us what they (our sisters) are going through - Yes they suffer twice - Once for us males and than their own suffering.

We are still at the beach, this morning me and my lady watched the sunrise accompanied by the sounds of the surf washing onto the sands and the seagulls rejoicing in the skies.

When we left on thursday morning (July 12th) to journey to the beach, I told myself I was not going to think about July 12th being the anniversary of when I was dx'ed with this crap. We arrived, checked in, and than went looking for and found Gigi and her parents. Shortly after our other daughter and her boyfriend arrived. Off we went to the beach, sent up this small pop up tent thing I purchased from Costco. A cooler filled with soda, water and beer came along on our trip to the beach - and two kites! The seven of us had a great time! Lots of laughs. I had not flown a kite in like forever!

Back to the hotel we journeyed, were sitting near the pool - Gigi and her parents were the first to drift away, than my wife had to follow to see Gigi, me and daughter and her bf sitting still, than daughter goes up to Gigi's room, than her bf - ok what gives as none are making it back (this all in the space of a hour). I'll wait someone will come get me sooner or later. And yes! I hear "DAD!!"

Up to Gigi and her parents room - walk in - dark and light blue ballons, dark and light blue streamers hung corner to corner.

Both Daughters - wearing T-shirts "My Dad is my Hero" - with the prostate cancer ribbon on the T-shirts

Wife, Frank (Gigi's Dad), Tom (Linda's BF) wearing T-shirts "No One fights alone" - with the prostate cancer ribbon.

Gigi - with a Prostate Cancer Sucks Button

Me - blinks blinks - tears well up.

I get a "Hero" TShirt with the Prostate cancer ribbon on it.

Champage toasts (with blueberries) offered to Dad. Hugs all around.

Walked a few blocks to a little seafood restaraunt - everyone wearing the T-Shirts

darn I am one lucky lucky man!

I totally agree. My wife has been a solid foundation for me to lean on during all the radiation, chemo, CT scan, MRIs, etc. She has not missed any of my appointments, always take notes from the appointments since I sometime don't keep it all straight, and she is always by my side nursing me when I need it and giving me tough love when she thinks I need to work on doing things myself. She has emptied drains coming out of my body after surgery, measured and reported urine from my catheter, changed wafers and bags for my colostomy and numerous outpourings of love I can't even remember. I am man enough to say that I could not have made it through the past to years of cancer treatments without my wife. I love her dearly and will never... ever forget her love for me.

No argument from this guy. For nearly 4 years here on HW, I have constantly given my wife both praise and credit for how she has dealt with my PC journey. It's nice having a well experienced nurse as a wife, as she can balance the "wife" part with a professional opinion of things as well.

Since acquiring the urostomy, she has become my stoma nurse as well. She gives it a good inspection each week or so whenever its time to change out the device, to make sure the skin around the stoma is looking healthy, and that there are no signs of infection.

We have been married for nearly 38 1/2 years, and she is my reason for me to keep fighting the good fight, and not feeling like I am going to give up.

P.S. I had already been giving thought to dedicating my 16,000th HW post to the women of HW, they all deserve it.

Thank you, Sequoia and all. HW is really a community and I have felt welcomed from the beginning. While it helps me most directly, my husband has begun to ask - What's new on the forum? We are all going to beat this crap.

Thanks for the accolades Sequoiranger. I think we do what we do because we are married to the most wonderful husbands in the world. You men are the true heroes. You smile when it's difficult, never complain even when you're in pain, always worry about everyone else and most of all you fight the horrible fight with strength and courage even though you didn't enlist.

My husband knows how I feel about the wonderful people on the forum and actually asked the date of GFMPH.

I totally agree and have to add my applause for our ladies and all the caregivers who help us so much on our journeys. They fully deserve all the recognition and praise they are getting. My wife is my rock. I would have never made it through this without her. I am forever grateful for all her support, care, help, and understanding. Then to stop and think that she did all this - with the stress she was under in dealing with this ugly disease – truly amazing! Thanks again my love – I’ll cherish you forever.

Sorry, off topic but hat off to two special girls, Glover and Stanning – just got GBR our first GOLD!!!!!!

My wife has been my absolute rock through out all of this sh**.

Without her support both physically (making doctors appts, keeping records, getting copies of old lab reports, making sure I had everytihing I needed), and mentally (more than I can ever say), nothing would have gone so smoothly.

I raise my glass to all of the wives, partners, children, and friends that support us in this fight, they suffer too, but all the while keep us strong.

I have been both a cancer survivor and a cancer spouse…and I am not the only one here with that dubious distinction. This has given me the perspective of also considering those among us who do not have a spouse to provide added support.   Many men are fighting the disease solo.   Consider putting your feet in their shoes next time you say, “I couldn’t have done it without my wife.”   Many before you have already done it, and many in the future will, too.   Remember to thank and show appreciation for your support network…whomever it may be.

the "cancer card" was far more effective with my wife the first year. After that it's as if I never had it and will never get it again.
