16 years ago my husband had prostate surgery and everything was OK until last year when his PSA started to go up! After much testing with OK and neg. readings on bone scans etc. they did have him take 33 radiation treatments. His first PSA was last week and yesterday found out the reading was 8.38. As far as we know before radiation it was at 3.3 but again they did not do another PSA until last week. His testosterone is very low at 46.1, and all other blood work is OK nothing to far out of reach! He will go see one of the urologist who preformed the surgery 16 years ago next week to see what he has to say.
Do anyone out there who has gone through this have any info they care to share??
I am concerned since he has had radiation but he appears fine in general overall health. He does have high BP and cholesterol, that he takes meds for.
He was 55 when he had surgery and will be 68 in Sept. I know that prostate cancer can be slow growing or it can go in the opposite direction very quickly. With it still rising has me concerned.
Thanks in advance for any info anyone cares to share.
I will keep each of you in my prayers and prayer much harder and trust God for my husband of 46 years and want to make that 50 plus many more!

Husband of 46 years :) - And you want to make that 50 plus many more?
Sounds like you like him - maybe just a little bit.
We have been wed 39 years - apparently my wife likes me a little bit!
Have nothing else to share with you other than HUGS!

I read some place that radiation stuns cancer cells first and they die quite a while later. So the PSA effect of radiation takes some time to happen.
I hope the cancer was confined to the prostate bed area. It might be hard to test for that.
Good luck to you both.

What is the duration between finishing radiations and that psa test?

I'll add a question as well,
Has he been on hormone therapy? A reading of 46 on the T levels is castrate level and that is very unusual for a guy who's not being treated with HT.

Wishing you and your husband the best, Southernstar. Hopefully, his urologist will provide some options in dealing with these new problems. I think there is great hope tha you two WILL make it to 50 years!
Much blessings,

Southernstar -- I have no wisdom to add, but did want to say how sorry I am that you have to deal with this again. As for 50 years --- darn rights! And I'm booking to be at your 75th --- I make him to be 97 then and I'll be 99 --- so don't forget to put me on the guest list.
