I read this too. It's a nice thing to declare, but I wonder why they would declare something like this. Is it a marketing or do they know something that really makes them think this is possible? If so wonder what it is.

OK. I have read some more about this. Here is the statement from MD Anderson that I find interesting.

"They're bringing the lab to the clinic," said Dr. Roy Herbst, director of the thoracic oncology research program at the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center. "You would say that they're doing this anyhow, but they're refocusing."

Shortly after I was first diagnosed I noticed that there were all of these discoveries being made that seemed to have provide some glimer of hope. The problem I soon realized is that there was all this lab work going on and then after the so call discovery was made we never-ever heard about it again. All this so called promising stuff was being found but nobody was following up on it. I think from what I have read is that MD Anderson is now trying to change that. It appears fro m what I read that the want to bring things from the lab to the clinic much faster now.

Hope it helps. I still don't know why the are saying the can dramatically reduce the number of deaths from certains of cancer in the next 10 years.

chris, i am a realist and ex-bus exec, so yes, some of it is marketing and advertising.

but i am happy to see this dolllar amount of investment, its a huge amount and a good start

all of my current doctors are md anderson, and i have been happy with their quality of service, except for my uro, who is independent

Chris:Could not have agreed with you more, I was recently Dx, I have gone back and read several old articles about promosing discoveries only to find that they are not actually being utilized for one reason or another.

I'm sure it's a bit of both... advertising and striving for excellence.

MDA is a great academic institution.

However, being such, they will allow you to choose to not do what you do not want to do, but they won't allow you to choose what you do want to do, if it is one hair outside of their protocol. Outside specialist seem to have more leeway in treatment availability and timing of such.

I hope they really have something going on and that a fair amount of the research is spent on prostate cancer.

When I was there the Medical oncologist said that they do not want to just treat cancer. They want to stop it. They ask me to be in one of their trials or protocals they call it. I refused because mainly I live 1400 miles round trip and they needed someone that is closer. Also with my luck I be in the group that got the sugar pill.lol Just joking their was not a sugar pill group. It was for PC patient with node involvment. One group got Robotic surg. and node disection. Then some new medicine they were trying. The other group got conventional treatment. They would follow the groups to see which outcome was best. It is a moot point now. It is a great place.

Dr. Depinho ,from MDAnderson,was just on CNBC talking about this "Moon Shot to Cure CANCER". He was talking over my head.
