I'm gonna start you your own thread here, so you can get a proper welcome.

Welcome to HW. In another thread, douglas in oklahoma posted for the first time, saying:


Ok, first time @ da Rodeo here. It started in April of 2011 with a PSA of 600.47. No other symptoms and no spread beyond the prostate (except my bones of course). June the orchhiectomy. Psa fell each month until sept's low of 57.00 then back up. Doctor/hospital.. change and all that (and it was clear that i had castration resistant prostate cancer; & was Stage IV); a new start in Jan. 2012 and a dance with taxotere....with Psa down to the 100s by april. June it was clear the taxotere was failing and the psa was climbing fast, as was the bone pain. JUNE & JULY were my most painfilled months to date; and were beyond the pale. Aug 8, I started Zytiga, and within three days, hardly any pain. Blood test this past Tuesday, my PSA had dropped in just two months from over 1,500. to 92. I feel great and i can cook and get around again. I feel so good it is scary. Any thoughts/suggestions. it is clear to me that i have lot to learn from this forum. thanks

Welcome to our family, sorry you have to be here - but this is the place you need to be.

To start- there is nothing that says Zytiga needs to be shortlived. Bianca's Dad has been on it for almost a year and his PSA dropped to and has stayed at less than 0.1.

The drop in 60 days - Cheers! Good for you! I'm not sure how unusual such a drop is. To start very few of us have had 4 digit PSAs.

I just posted a 1st grader's question as to how to find this sucker ( the thread, i mean)...and then figured it out by myself......silly how little crap can make ya feel smart. Ok, thanks for the welcome. i am here to learn. douglas & thanks James C

Welcome to our forum and sorry you have to be here. First as you will find out there are no silly questions in this forum as we all were new to this at one time. There is not much I can add to help your situation other than you will find way too many guys here that are suffering and fighting this crap like you and many of them will be here to support you through there own experiences. One of them Raddad (Bud) has already done that, he is one of my closest friends in this forum and you will not find anyone more positive in attitude than him on winning this war on PC.  I will say you are the first I have seen here that had to go through a orchiectomy, I have read about the procedure but not met anyone who had it performed. You will also find a lot of guys here who are currently doing trials on new drugs and treatments that many here hope will help win the war in the very near future. The last thing to remember is "No One Fights Alone" and as of today you will never be alone in this fight.

good morning, 1st to Xgeva; I did that sucker with the Taxotere in March. Omg, that did not go well. The fire department and then the ambulance ride to the ER. Xgeva was the problem for me, but it took time/tests/money to figure out. Calcium drop HUGE (again omg) and a racing heart @ 169 beats a minute. There is still a bit of heart damage, they think. The Taxotere worked well for 'bout 3 months. Now to the "gelding" bit. When we stared this cancer dance in 2011, i was a master framer without medical insurance, but some SMALL cash reserves. And came the day in late May: chemical @ $1,200.oo a month OR the surgery (my prostate was wall to wall cancer & the bone scan showed: two vertebrae loaded/ skull /ribs -2 /shoulder -R /and hip - L ). So it was the prudent call. 6 months later and a new cancer doc...I learned that I did indeed have castration resistant prostate cancer. JUST ME: i was more upset 'bout losing my hair than losing my balls. Losing my libido is another story. for later oh yeah, i had great curly hair. Now i have something that looks like a Frank Sinatra toupee from 1972. The greek gods are laughing @ me.
