My husband had his Davinci surgery on Oct. 9th. He still tires easily and comes home early from work and takes a nap before supper. His appetite is not quite back to normal, either. Anethesia does a real number on the human body and can cause side effects for up to a year. An
open prostectomy often results in much larger blood loss- so anemia is much more common with it. Plus the cutting of the abdominal muscles weakens the core more extensively. When my mom looked up prostecomy on the internet she made a comment to my husband that it seemed this was just shy of an organ transplant or
open heart surgery. I think she's right! Your whole body is still recouperating. Real healing - especailly major healing- takes time. Additionally, your body had been fighting the cancer for a while- and its resources were already a bit depleated. One other thing- if they took abdominal lymph nodes, your body is having to adjust an entire system (the lymph system is an adjunct to the blood circulatory system)- so not only healing, but adapting is going on.
Stick with the good diet, walking, extra rest, lots of water and take your iron supplements or increase your dark greens and eat a tablespoon of sorgum syrup (very high in iron) if they won't conflict with other medications you take (be especially careful of dark greens if you take a blood thinner like coumadin or warfarin). Push yourself only a little- too much and you'll have more / other problems.
