Off Topic: Wife in ER today

Good to she's improving. This the stage my wife gets into trouble - starts to feel good and over does.

but being a nurse I am sure your wife won't do that. Right? :)

they did one 2 years ago and saw nothing of substance, at least bone wise, the ER dr and the NP did not feel justified in running a new one,they both looked at the old one.

that must have been fun right before a wedding to deal with, glad it was resolved

Glad your wife is showing some improvement (and some more common sense). You MUST take care of yourself. Try to take some short cat naps when you can. You both remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Glad she's doing better - but it really sounded bad ......... Quite a pair. Hope she continues and you can recuperate to, as much as possible.

I've staring at my screen for 10 minutes trying to write the perfect message of hope and encouragement.

"Go get 'em tiger," Is the only phase that keeps jumping into my head and is less than I really want to say.

Well, it's been a very stressful week at work for me so I am a bit brain fried.

First, my apologies for not posting something to you sooner, as I have been away from the computer for a few days. (Not Sandy related, just away).

I think I may be able to add something that might help you as you and your wife go through this. My wife suffered a stroke about 5 years ago. After treatment in the ER, she had to be hospitalized for several weeks, and then went through rehab for several more. Regrettably, she became partially paralyzed on her right side and was wheelchair bound. Her speech was also badly affected.

When she finally came home, I became her arms, legs, voice, and any other physical means she needed. I did everything I could for her, helping her with all the functions she needed to do, and being there for her emotionally, more than ever before.

During this time when I was her so very close helper, I realized that she and I were coming to feel an amazing, heartwarming, wonderful bonding together, something better and closer than anything we had ever had before in our 35 years of marriage. Giving her a hug sometimes as she sat in her wheelchair would bring tears to my eyes, knowing that we had both been brought so close together by this, and we would hug each other all the more.

I think it is very, very possible that you may be sensing this happening to yourself, along with your wife. For me, this becoming one, as husband and wife facing such a challenge together, was one of the most endearing moments of our marriage.

That was 5 years ago. Unfortunately, my wife, although she did recover substantially from the stroke (was able to walk again and speak better) continued to have heart trouble and passed on from a cardiac arrest in April of last year. Her passing that night was devastating to me, the worst night ever of my life.

But one of the fondest memories of my life so far is that of the closeness the two of us had when I was there for in so many ways at the time of her stroke.

Maybe it can be like that for you and your wife, and give the two of you an even greater bond that the two of you can continue to look back on.

THURSDAY: DAY 6 UPDATE

Again, just small improvements for her since yesterday. Still having mostly bed time, and still in a lot of pain if she walks about at all. I went and talked to her facility director this morning, to make sure they were ok with her being out so long, all was good on the job front. In the 9 previous years working there, I believe she had only ever taken 1 or 2 sick days, so they know she's not a slacker. She been doing the most important part of her job from home from bed, so they are happy for that. Plus it gives her something to keep her mind busy with. Still not convinced she will be strong enough by Monday to go back to work, but we will see how she does by the middle of the weekend.

On my front, I went to the county Veterens office, and turned over copies of my Social Security Disability findings and the serious letter of my current conditon from my Oncologist. THey will be forwarded directly to the person considering my VA Agent Orange Disability case. The local reps feel strongly it will be approved in the near future. It's been 3 years now since I first applied.

i love being married to a nurse, though she makes a lousy patient, lol. stubborn as a goat at times.

she had always wanted to be one, since a kid, but never did well in school when young. she was married at 18, then 3 kids, you know the story. at age 40, she had her mind made up, went to nursing college, graduated with honors, and the rest is history. she's a great and caring nurse. some nurses work from the heart, and others do it for the money only, she is in it for all the right reasons.

in observing marriages that i personally know are lousy and miserable, it isnt things like cheating or drinking being the big issue, its utter selfisness on one or both of the partners. people act more like roomates, then as husband and wife. we were never of the "this is mine, and this is yours", we do it all together, including money issues etc. While we are individuals in our own rights, we feel that when you get married, the two shall become one. know that will sound lame to some, but it works for us.

i am proud of the job she does as a nurse, she has an excellent reputation in the community, with very high level care for her patients, and for the employees she supervises. that's why they are missing her so much right now being out of work.

she's still a keeper after 38 plus years. couldn't imagine being with anyone else, nor would i be interested if i could. she was beautiful at 18, and she still is now.

Hi David, how is your wife doing now? From reading the above it sounds like she could benefit from a new MRI. All the MRI's I've requested myself, had shown something...most of them were tears (shoulders, hips, knee, etc). I've always had to push my orthopedist or sports doc for the MRI's, but I didn't have to push too hard. And each time I was right when they said there were no tears.

So the bottom line you know your body the best. If your wife thinks it would be beneficial to get an MRI, push for one.

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE

No surprise, my wife is in no better shape early this morning to go to work. She could barely make it to the room where she likes to have her morning coffee. She had a rough painful night starting about 4 AM on till she woke up.

She is on the phone, trying to force a real doctor's appointment today. It was a week ago that I took her to her PCP office, only to get stuck with the rude and useless NP. She is insisting on being seen by a real doctor this time.

Ten days since I took her to the ER, and she only has minimal improvements at certain times in the day. I really think they need to do a new MRI, not depend on one done 2 full years ago. She is out of all the legitimate meds that were given to her a week ago.

She is beyond frustrated at this point, she has never been down this long before.

Glad Ron's colon thing is over with. While that was a big increase in his PSA, he still is under .10. If his starts rising above .10 in the future, it might be time to be concerned. Good luck to him.
