Just saw an ad on yahoo stating...
November is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month......

This is an ad to buy a bracelet and 10% goes to prostate cancer awareness. Not really important what it is selling. Am I losing my mind? September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month right? Not November. Whew, I feel like I am losing my mind.

keeping this in mind. A man I work with is big into dog shows, and he has been in touch with some of the big-wigs who put together the shows across the US, talking to them about doing a show where the money goes to Prostate Cancer. They currently do a show and give the money to Breast Cancer. So, this may be one small step!

I find myself being really offended with all the Breast Cancer awareness stuff. Even the boy scouts of america now have a pink badge for breast cancer awareness. WHAT!!!! I have it sitting on Michaels desk.....wouldnt you think that a male dominated organization would support Prostate Cancer Awareness? I understand that breast cancer awareness is important, but darn! I dont get it. How can we fix this? I am just sick about the fact that so many men dont have the information that they need to have. And that it is so easily overlooked.

Will step off my soap box now! Thanks for letting me vent, but really, what is the deal, September or November??????

Keeping all those effected by Sandy in my thoughts. Continued prayers for all those touched by any type of cancer but my support and admiration goes to you special men who have had to deal with a disease we seem to be ashamed of!!

My wife is offended by all those breast cancer awareness events and symbolisms too. There's a point of over-saturation and I believe they have more than reached it.

I know....I'm all fired up this evening. Just finished writing a letter to the Boy Scouts of America.....whew, is Michael gonna be pissed when he finds out!!!! Uh oh. oh well! I'm a big girl, I stand behind everything I said to them.

I read that "Movember" is Men's Health Awareness Month... and some will grow moustaches and/or not shave the entire month in support...

Re your question about whether November is PC awareness month.

There is a group started in Australia, I believe, with a big organization in Canada, which calls itself "Movember." According to their website, their purpose is: "During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo's, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives." I believe they are also active in the U.S.

The men in the organization call themselves Mo Bros, and the women Mo Sistas, I believe.

They have sort of designated November as their month to raise PCa awareness. You can google "Movember" and learn all about them.

Hey, if they're working against PCa, they've got to be good guys.

I know about Movember, and it is a fantastic cause, they have done a great job with making it kind of fun. Getting the info out there. Thank you for sharing that info here on that thread, good job!!! They are active here in the US, would love to see them get more attention as well!

You go girl, I'm with you.

A year ago, it never crossed my mind. I watch Nascar, and the pink cars, and pink numbers and the pink stripes on the track, didnt bother me at all then. But now, I gritted my teeth all October watching races. It really got to me.

Not because I am against the pinks and their efforts. Ain't no man on earth that loves a pair more than me, and I want those with breast cancer to get every nickle they can. God bless them all.

But the disparity in funding and the whole corporate "We love TaTa's" thing while what we have is largely ignored, it just sticks in my craw a bit.

I read this today on the Georgia Prostate Coalition site:

"While prostate cancer and breast cancer have approximately the same number of new cases in Georgia; in the year 2000, the ACS Call Center received 2745 calls for breast cancer information and only 363 calls for information on prostate cancer. GPCC believes these figures indicate that men of Georgia are not benefiting from early detection and, once diagnosed, are not seeking information to understand their disease."

Even though the data is 12 years old, I suspect that the numbers have not changed much.

Since my deal started, I try and wear something every day to make people notice, a hat, a pin, I even got a big blue ribbon stuck to tailgate of the old Dodge. I am guessing it is up to us. I am going to do what I can.

And Susan, your writing to the Boy Scouts has prompted me to write Nascar a letter as well.

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. All sponsored charities work with this month for lobbying.

November is Mens Health Care Month NOT Prostate Cancer Awareness month. This month is sponsored by Movember Foundation in Europe. Also stretched across the pond.

Before I was diagnosed with this crap, I had never heard of it. Or if I did it never registered.

Just within the last few months have I been letting people outside a pretty small circle - well not including the 1000's here - know of my cancer. Surprise! At least nine guys told me they have this crap.

I had a talk with my wife and daughters - basically (and generally) gals will share things with their friends a lot faster than guys will.

I now have "No one fights alone" and "Prostate Cancer Awareness" magnets on my car. I know folks have looked at the magnets.

I also wear a blue prostate cancer bracelet Zimac gave me. I've been asked about it on occasion, if a guys asks - I tell him, the guy quickly changes the subject. If a gal asks - I tell her. 9 out of 10 times the gal will ask more questions.

So yes - each one of us has to support anything to do with Prostate Cancer Awareness.

September was my personal prostate cancer awareness month, since that's when I was diagnosed. When I found out it was the official one as well, I got a chuckle out of that.

Here is a fun article on MOvember! I love all the mustaches. The article does mention testicular and prostate cancer. Funny, last year I remember a ton of facebook friends taking picutures of themselves or their kids with faux mustaches. I doubt they knew the significance, BUT how brilliant is the idea. Like Susan, I think it is fun and catchy. Imagine if you will, every year more and more people having fun with it, and spreading awareness at the same time. I already took a picture of myself with one, but haven't posted it to my facebook yet. The picture is pretty cool.

I put my childrens photos on my FB page, so I only allow family. Although I would love to be able to link up with your FB, maybe I should start a new account just for stuff like that! Its a Thought!

Anytime someone tags you in a pic on FB, it then shows up on your page, as long as you are friends with them. Thats how it ended up on your page :-) I am a bit hyper about my kids pics being viewable to the public on the web, so I have some serious privacy levels set on FB.
