Quck Question - VA health Care and Provenge

Has anyone, who is being cared for by the VA, any experience with Provenge and the VA?

I'm considering requesting Provenge - would be very helpful if I could point out where other VA Hospitals / Health Clinic's have provided it to their patients

FYI - I use the VA Hospital in DC and have found everyone to be very professional, knowledgeable and easy to get along with.

Having everything needed under one roof and tied into the same computer system is one of the enables for great care.

Raddad , Company, that make PROVENGE was awarded contract with VA ( I think in July ), so it will be no problem for you receive PROVENGE if you qualify. First step that you should do : go to PROVENGE website www.provenge.com/
and call number 1-877-336-3736 and support staff will answer all your questions and guide you with every step.

I'm not sure Bud but I think when I was conferencing with my Chemo Doc at the Houston VAMC I mentioned provenge plus other experimentals and she said she had to stick to the proven protocol until all else fails. My PSA is now .02 Bud and I thought it would never get this low so follow the yellow brick road and maybe well get there the same time.

I called the Help Line - from that I got - check the Website and see if in your zip code area who does it.

I did - Nope on VA.

The lady on the Help Line said - Oh well I do not have any more info

Bud--Wish you the best and that you can get PROVENGE through the VA. There may be a possibility that only a few facilities have Doctors/technicians trained to administer it although it is approved by the VA..If a facility is geographically unacceptable to you due to medical problems--I don't know how long the procedure takes--
in special cases the VA approves treatment at a civilian institute on a "Fee Paid" basis..It can be done!

age 70 now--Dx'd Sept 2010--psa 4.49--ct & bone scans negative--5 g8's & 4 g7's out of 10 cores with high volume and ece..Casodex & lupron initially & then imrt (79.2 g's) completed in Feb 2011--casodex discontinued and lupron for 3 years--1 year to go..initial psa after radiation--.06 and now <.03

Is the zytiga failing? This is the first I have read that you are going to go down the Provenge road. I need to give you a call today as we havn't talked in a couple of weeks.
