Leaking around catheter

Surgery done on the 13th.  I have been experiencing slight leaking where catheter enters body .  Bag is filling ok, but I get damp spots around crotch when moving around.

Is this normal with a catheter.

I leaked badly - had to use an adjustable Depends over the cath to keep from soaking everything. I was also having bladder spasms, which contributed to the leaks. Because of timing of the cath removal, and a lack of having anyone to take me to the doc short of calling an ambulance, I toughed it out, so to speak.

Uro said he agreed it was unpleasant, but short of adjusting the cath, and possibly making it worse, there wasn't much to do.

Keep the tube clean from the urine buildup, as that does raise the possiblities of a urinary tract infection.

In the phase you are in now, if you have any issues/questions, call the surgeon's office and ask. Better to be a bother to them than to ignore something that may turn out to be important.

Regarding taping to the leg, my nurse said to think baseball: high and outside.

Bladder spasms rarely would cause a leak, as I mentioned above, having the baloon poriton of the cath, the part inside your bladder, being underinflated is the normal cause. Having been on 21 caths, never had one leak a drop if it was properly inflated. Experienced literally thousands of spasms, if the baloon is full, there is no way for anything to get past it. Fortunately for most men, the whole ordeal of the catheter is over in 7-10 days.

I found that I would get damp spots around the catheter when I was walking around more. I also found I had bladder spasms when it was nearing the two week point. As well as strapping the bag on I also wore briefs to help keep the tube from moving around.
