Been a rough and troublesome week for us.
Yesterday, my wife found out by phone that Worker's Comp is turning her down on her claim, as they put it, they don't believe it happened at work. Odd, considering it did happen at work, and her employer has 2 sworn statements of other employees that back up her claim, including the nurse that had to relieve her when her back gave out when tending a patient. This is not the end of the story. Her employer is still standing behind her, and Monday I will be sitting down with the same attorney that handled my Social Security Disability claim so well.
Her home office, supposedly this wonderful Christian company, has a terrible record of how it treats their facilities and employees, so this wasnt' a total surprise. They have already made a veiled threat (which is very illegal), that if she gets an attorney, she will lose her job and be blacklisted by their corporation. Yes, we have it all on record.
We are still hoping for a peaceful settlement. Remember, my wife is only looking for the medical bills to be covered and her wages covered until she can return to work. It's possible she may get a doctor's release on Janurary 3rd when she sees the neurosurgeon again. We are not going to be intimidated. But she has already lost 3 pay periods and is about to miss a 4th It's not like she's looking to become disabled and soak the company, she simply wants to heal and return to her position that she worked so hard to earn.
Me, aside from my own disabiilities, and caring 100% for her, I had to spend 3 days this week assisting my ex-boss in his lawsuit, back to back days, including sitting through a 5 hour legal meeting yesterday without a break, after taking my wife to the doctor in the morning. I was completely shot by the end of the day. White in pain, fatigue beyond comprehension, and on top of it, having bladder spasms so bad that I almost had to sit on the floor until they passed. Add a poor nights sleep...you can see.
So today, ended up being a crash day for both of us. Did a lot of day sleeping to make up for being so tired, but woke up to another problem, had my urostomy device fail in the night and woke up soping wet from the west down, a great way to wake up covered in cold urine with your clothes and bedding soaked. Ah, life gets better and better.
Christmas will be our most scaled back ever, our family will have to understand, not even going to barely decorate, too much hassle getting everything out of the attic and set up, and then re-arranging everything in the house. Just going to be simple this year. We have enough to deal with as it is.
Expected the W/C to be easily approved, since it was so well documented, witnesses and all, and her management supporting her claim, etc. Don't know why everything has to be a bitter fight.
That's it for now, I think that is quite enough. Someone here did a kind deed, and sent some unexpected funds so that we could send out for dinner several times over, that was greatly appreciated, every little bit helps under the circumstances.
Hope everyone else is doing better than we are at the moment. Thank goodness that we have a rock strong marriage, a lot of faith, and good family to hold onto.
