Kicked in the gut by cancer again!!

Well, I've been fighting an aggressive prostate cancer for over 10 years and doing surprisingly well considering that I failed surgery, then SRT, then ADT3.......today I went for my "routine" colonoscopy and it looks like I have about a 3cm mass in my rectum...will need to wait for lab results but the GI doc says it looks like cancer, no idea on how to treat until it gets staged and some additional tests are done !!  Needless to say I am in shock right now....I never wanted to lose my life to Pca...looks like I may not. For sure  another tough battle is ahead.

Ziggy, you need to catch a break.   Hopefully the mass is contained.  Treatment for colo-rectum cancer has greatly improved with drugs like avastin....I trust you will have very effective options.   Keep us posted,

OH NO!!!! What shocking news. I am so sorry to hear about this. Hopefully you get the best news possible in this situation and you will continue your fight against the cancer.

Sounds like it was caught early. I hope this is the case. Looks like cancer may not mean it is cancer. I'd wait until it is confirmed. When was your previous colonoscopy?

In the meantime, take a deep breath.

So sorry to hear about this. As if you didn't have enough to worry about. I had my scare late this past summer, when I had my first and only colonosocpy and they were concerned about pancreatic cancer too, but I was "cleared" on both for now. Good luck. That's a while other fight ahead.

I have a friend that just had surgery on a large tumor in his colon...it is large, but not cancerous. One thing at a time. Keep us updated and hang in there.

I really wish doctors wouldn't say something looks like cancer, until they know it is cancer.

My Mom recently went through this with two spots on her colon and both came back benign.

Can't say I've been there exactly, but I had a large "mass" and fistula from the rectum up into a part of the small intestine. They cut and patched, rotorooted the infected blood veins, took out suspicious tissue (never did understand if it was cancerous or not, the guy was an ex-MASH doc, just did the work and moved on), and I ate soft foods and soaked in the bathtub everyday for weeks, and got over it, except for the fact that the rectum didn't quite close right. When briefs are on sale, I stock up :(

There is good news of a sort. You've had RT already. RT tore me a new one in the new damage to the scars from the prior surgery.

The surgery to the rectum is a true pain in the arse, but with a proper doughnut cushion and some ibuprofen, manageable.

I'll add my vote for hoping it is benign. At least they found it early.

Bad news, so sorry. My grandmother had colon cancer and she always thought she would die from it. In the end she beat it, and died of something completely unrelated. Always room for hope.

I wish you all the best and voting for a benign result - they are times you want to slap the so-called professionals for how they do NOT know how to speak and they do not know the impact they make on people lives - "looks like cancer" does not mean it is cancer
- if it is, hopefully it has been caught early and very treatable

Thanks you all for the encouragement, it really does help...I know some of you have even tougher battles. The pathology will in on Monday, then on Tues I have to do an endorectral ultrasound with additional biopsys, then we can stage it and see what to do with it. (anything that starts with endorectal does not sound like much fun!!)

Since lots is going wrong, my favorite mini poodle whose name is Ziggy...her cancer has just recurred, and it does not look hopeful....I am up to her vet in an hour to see what to do...very sad...my partner and I lean on this little maniac of a dog.She has been a beacon of light for us.

Sorry to hear that, Ziggy, and I agree that you do deserve a break. Maybe you get it when this thing is benign. Here's hoping.

Sorry--Just wanted to take your mind elsewhere for however long. I love animals and wish the best for Ziggy. I hope that they can treat whatever it is and you can get on with your life without consequences..

UPDATE:   colon cancer is confirmed.......endorectal ultra sound shows it has invaded the bowel wall (bad news)....but has not invaded the outside or any lymph nodes...really good news. Tomorrow on to oncology then Thurs consult with surgeon. Problems:  my clinical trial with arn-509 which is really working to control my Pca may bounce me out if chemo is needed, I've had SRT so they may not be able to radiate the colon, and I'm subject to adhesions if surgery is done.....wow what next !!!!

Ziggy's cancer is now in her lymph nodes...so we keep her comfortable for as long as we can..
