Abiraterone (Zytiga) then Cabazitaxel

I am sorry I haven't been on in a few weeks I have been splitting my time between my father, work and fiance (we got engaged just 2 months ago). My father has now had 4 sessions of Docetaxel and is due his 5th on tuesday we had a meeting with his specialist last week and its a mixed bag...its working in his liver but there is more activity in his bones we don't know if this is flare ups or progression as his alk.phos results have reduced... his PSA has risen in the last two sessions then gone down again so we are waiting and watching what happens now. My question is is this common? And also what are your thoughts on Abiraterone and then Cabazitaxel...his PSA is now 36 as of 23/11 it was 48 on 12/11 and 40 on 22/10 but its was 164 when he started treatment in september. Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated I really want to help him fight this...

First congratulations! Exciting times for you and your fiance.

For your Dad - his PSA went from 164 to 36 in 4 sessions. A blip upwards in PSA is fairly common. How many does he have left to go?

Before your start making plans for his next treatment - see what is the end result of the Docetaxel is.

Zytiga and Xtandi are both next step possibles - if he needs a next step.

Hi Bud thanks for your reply it's much appreciated! He can have up to 6 more if they are helping... He's coping amazingly I'm so proud of him. We are remaining positive & my fiancé and I are hoping our wedding in May may be a double celebration. Keeping everything crossed and hope all goes well for you too x

Sooner or later your Dad will figure out he will be giving his baby to another man to take care of. Make no mistake your ARE his baby! We have 2 daughters - 30 and 35 - yup they are both still my babies:)

To dance with your daughter at her wedding - what a amazing amazing experience!

My husband went from Taxotere, to Zytiga, now Jevtana, and probably next Xtandi.

Hope and prayers for May for you. Our hope is for my husband to see his oldest granddaughter graduate from West Point, but have been blessed in that he's had some time with her at home and at the academy. Very proud grandpa, as I'm sure your dad is to have you walking this path with him.

Hi Raddad & Passages, thanks for your very kind replies we had a bad day today he went for his 5th chemo & his PSA has gone from 38 to 82 I am now wondering if we should have a second opinion as to his treatments...been reading up more about these but also standing and alpharadin...it's so hard to know what to do. He is so amazing I feel helpless I so want to help him...passages I do hope he makes her graduation I am sure it will be a great day! Raddad I just want him to walk me down the aisle....thanks for the link it's very useful. Hugs to you both x

That is a big jump. Hubby's only was 10 pts. Continued with treatment today but going to get a scan before next treatment to see what's going on. I will let the others give input, but it seems a 2nd opinion wouldn't hurt......yet our oncologist favorite saying was "it is what it is."

Certainly praying for that wedding.

Wanted to wish you all a happy christmas & up date this thread... We've had someone else look my fathers treatment & it looks as though we are on the right path.... My fathers PSA has thankfully fallen again from 82 to 61 and so praying his test tomorrow will show a further fall. Plan is for another taxotere on 27th then more scans & a first infusion of zometa two weeks later... Depending on those results if he will continue with taxotere or move to zytiga. Oncologist waiting to see if his last rise was a cancer flare.... Don't know much about that.... Praying hard we get some more juice out of taxotere... Wishing everyone the strength to fight this & hope you are surrounded by all your loved ones this Christmas I know this will be a very special one for us. God bless you all .... X
