R.I.P. Stormin Norman. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1993. I haven't seen anything yet to say if that's why he died. 19 years...that would make me 63...not long enough. :(

don't think like that. It would make me 59 but first off we don't know that's why, secondly we have no idea what numbers he had going on.

They have not announced his cause of death, other than "a long illness". Definitely a real American hero.

From what I saw...

"...died at age 78 from complications from pneumonia...".

This does not eliminate PCa as a contributing factor. Stormin Norman, has been a spokesman for prostate cancer and other chronic disease over the years since his retirement. It is possible that his cited ailment - pneumonia - was caused by PCa related chemotherapy and other such complications. But it's a moot point. We lost a true American Veteran who served.

That's the real loss to me...

Just makes me wonder about the senoir Pres Bush. He's been in the hospital since Thanksgiving. Not that he has PC, but that he's been battling pneumonia as well.

When I served in the army from 82-86 I was a member of the 24 inf division and he was my division commander for some of that time. I remember seeing him once from a distance and even then he seemed bigger then life!

I agree with all the comments that he was a real hero.  Wish there were more like him.

about PCa - if he had served in Viet Nam it would be better for his wife if the cause of death was PCa.

If you are going to die, better to die of you service connected disability!

The articles I read was that he was successfully treated for Pca, but had been a spokesmen for it.

A good man and great general! It's amazing to hear of all the notable vietnam era military figures who were diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer--Stormin Norman, Colin Powell, David Petraeus, John Kerry, etc.
Maybe the UC Davis study was right--viet vets are twice as likely to be diagnosed with pc than non vets..If the figure of 1 in 6 males will get pc and viet vets are twice as likely to get it, then maybe the figure is 1 in 3 for vets..my math is terrible.

Given his age, it's probably more likely that it was from complications from pneumonia.

RIP, General - his distinguished record and service speak for itself, he will be missed.
