cipro problems?

with my upcoming Biopsy i was given a prescription for Cipro, i have read reports that it causes anxiety!! I already take Paxil for minor anxiety issues(and a very low dosage at that.)

I think the consensus will be that upcoming biopsies cause anxiety -- the Cipro, not so much.

They gave me Levaquin 500mg for the biopsy. I have taken Cipro in the past. Neither caused me any anxiety.

The "Cancer" word, and the biopsy? That's a whole different story.

If you don't take the cipro and come down with a systemic infection, that will cause a bit more anxiety, I bet ..... I would take my chances with the cipro. I have taken it and Levaquin after two biopsies and had no side effects from either.

According to drugs.com , the odds of cipro causing anxiety is <1%. Good Luck.

I just want to point out that cipro causes tendon ruptures. It is black listed in Europe. I myself had 2 tendon ruptures of my legs 6 months after i took the drug. first the right tendon, then a year later the left one. my family doctor son took cipro for a prostate infection and he suffered the same. He had to give up football for a season. There are antibiotics without this side effect. i live in Germany and will never take this drug again

Looks like the risk for rupture is about 1 in 100,000 according to the below WebMD article. And Levaquin is also listed, since it's in the same class of drug.

I'll take my chances - those are pretty good odds. Whenever medicine is involved ( and I don't mean just drugs) , there is always a risk involved.

I agree with the post about tendon ruptures. Cipro has ruined my life as I knew it. You can't trust the package inserts. They don't give the full truth. Millions of people are suffering from the side effects of fluoroquinolones (cipro, Levaquin, Avelox) and their symptoms keep popping up for so long many don't pin point them to the drug. Trust me. I wouldn't give my worst enemy Cipro. Do the research. I'm a member of a support group of people that are dealing with anxiety, depression, brain fog, nightmares, tremors, ruptures, tendonitis, neuropathy, buzzing, tingling, pain, migraines, depersonalization and a ton of other side effects. Some people have suffered for years and still troubled by the damage. Doctors are not quick to agree to their damage and really don't research enough on their own before prescribing. I am not able to eat any meat with antibiotics or dairy now. I'm sensitive to every chemical in the book. Major changes have come about from this drug. I can't tell you what to do but I sure wish someone had warned me.

There are plenty of antibiotics available with far less side effects. Cipro and Levaquin are sister drugs.

I've taken Cipro before without any obvious side effects. I took Levaquin once and within an hour I was hallucinating and my voice was shaking, along with shallow breathing. Doctor said it was not possible from Levaquin. Told him to mark it in my file as an allergy to be on the safe side. Later found out when I spoke to my mother in law, that she experienced the same exact thing when she took one dose.

Not sure what is different between Cipro and Levaquin, but it's something big enough to cause a reaction to one and not the other.

You got that right - hard to think of anything else that caused me that much anxiety in recent years. The biopsy, not the cipro. I've take cipro a number of times with no problems.
