Adding to the welcome to the other side. Heal, walk, drink plenty, and get to that milestone of removing the catheter. There are plenty us us to walk alongside you on your recovery.

Second day being home.

Still in a lot of stomach pain and no bowel movement yet but I'm trying to walk as much as I can. Also, I seem to be urinating a lot and the urine bag is small which means I have to drain it often. I understand it's a process and each day I will get a little better.

Yes, I have been passing gas sporadically which has helped with my stomach pain.

Good luck with that first BM.... I remember that like it was yesterday. I'd walk around the house trying to get in the right 'frame of mind' but as soon as I entered the bathroom .... Nothing! I feel for ya! Are you taking any stool softeners? I was told to take colace (sp?) immediately when I got home from hospital. The good news is once you get that first one over with they get easier. Drink lots!
I also had two bags.... The small one I used in the day , I found it made me keep moving and the big gallon bag for night.

Reached another milestone. Had my first bowel movement!!!:)

Whew. I remember my first one. I learned what a bladder spasm was! peeing around the catheter was definitely painful. Congrats dude. Its all downhill from here!

I am about 1 month after surgery. Hydraulics are showing signs of life. It is operational with meds and incontinence is not too terrible at all. I really have no pain whatsoever

Congratulations! Glad your surgery is over and now you can look forward to a complete recovery & a long, healthy life.

I'm betting that your pathology report will be a good one.

When you get home, you might consider sleeping in a reclining chair for the first few nights. MUCH easier & less painful getting up, etc.

July 2011 local PSA lab reading 6.41 (from 4.1 in 2009). Mayo Clinic PSA Sept. 2011 was 5.7.
Local urologist DRE revealed significant BPH, but no lumps.
PCa Dx Aug. 2011 at age of 61.
Biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma in 3 of 20 cores (one 5%, two 20%). T2C.
Gleason score 3+3=6.
CT of abdomen, bone scan both negative.
DaVinci prostatectomy 11/1/11 at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), nerve sparing, age 62.
My surgeon was Dr. Matthew Tollefson, who I highly recommend.
Final pathology shows tumor confined to prostate.
5 lymph nodes, seminal vesicles, extraprostatic soft tissue all negative.
1.0 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm mass involving right posterior inferior,
right posterior apex & left mid posterior prostate. Right
posterior apex margin involved by tumor over a 0.2 cm length, doctor says this is insignificant.
Prostate 98.3 grams, tumor 2 grams. Prostate size 5.0 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm.
Catheter out in 7 days. No incontinence, occasional minor dripping.
First post-op exam 2/13/12, PSA <0.1.
Semi-erections now happening 14 months post-op & getting stronger.

Big day tomorrow, get the cath out.
Drink water, walk, drink water, walk, use stool softeners.

What does the doc do, to determine if it is the correct time to remove it?

I'm guessing at this point, it should get easier and easier with recovery?

My uro waits a fixed number of days then checks for leaks before the cath actually comes out. They had me lay on the CT bed then hooked the catheter up to a hanging bag of some sort of resist (looked like water). They let it run until I felt like I had to go then took some images to make sure I wasn't leaking. Apparently my images looked OK so they took me upstairs and pulled 'er out.

Seems like I am having a lot of incontinence. I guess it's just a matter of improving each day. Any thoughts to what else I can do?
