Stricture in urethra discovered during surgery

Had complication during surgery in form of a stricture in urethra. Doc indicated there was no way to tell if this would cause problem in the future. Two ways to deal with it - neither pleasant for obvious reasons (location and nature of problem).

Also, have to leave catheter (smaller than normal due to stricture) in for four instead of two weeks).

Has anyone encountered this?

Otherwise, surgery successful with complete nerve sparing.

Did you have issues with urination before surgery?

I had my cath in for five weeks after surgery because it leaked... It wasn't fun - but it wasn't bad.

Some issues with urination prior to surgery but chalked it up to prostate-related after pc diagnosis. The thought of another surgery anywhere close to this sensitive area freaks me out a little.

Apparently they had some real problems with this during surgery. Thank goodness I had surgeon that has dealt with pretty much everything, so they were successful nonetheless.

Rotor Rooter - you'll be done before you know it.. Or so I've been told. Hopefully you won't have to go there.

Yeah, I think it depends somewhat on size and placement of stricture, but after what we've all been through with surgery, we can handle anything now! Thank goodness there is a mechanical fix if needed.

I had a stricture so bad that they couldn't get the catheder in, after trying for 20 minutes, they aborted the surgery and did a dialation procedure instead. I had the catheder in for 2 or 3 weeks for that.

     2 months later I had my prostate surgery. My doctor told me it could be a lifelong problem, or never bother me again, no way to know for sure.

  Here I am over a year later, and knock on wood, no problem (with the stricture issue) at all. So I would say stay positive, you may be good to go.

I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. There iss hope for a good and uneventful prognosis.
