Way way off topic - Gigi is ONE today

Yes thats right!! Our little lady is ONE year old today!

Her parents are taken her to the Baltimore Aquarium as she loves fish. Well she also loves other babies about her size, any kind of animal, empty boxes, her right sock, and just about anything else she see's.

We had a little birthday party for her last week here. Grandma brought her some new clothes (surprise). Daughter says they will be having a birthday party for her either this or next weekend. Fun fun!

So now - why is Gigi mentioned so often. Well other than she really really brings a smile to Grandpa's face and a glow to his heart.

Back in March last year she had to go the Pediatric Intensive Care - it was without a doubt the worst day of my life - being told I had this crap did not compare. I turned to our brothers and sisters for support.

Since than I've always felt like Gigi is in her own way part of our HW family.

She continues to meet with her medical team about every 3 weeks, they are very happy with her progress (basically normal for a baby) and are making sure she stays healthy. Gigi hates getting her blood drawn!

Today! She is ONE !!! Grandpa is so proud!

We will see her - babysit - this thursday. Happiness is!

added 10:45 Eastern: Grandma called Gigi to wish her a Happy Birthday. Gigi asked Grandma to bring Grandpa and come over to her house tomorrow as her parents have to do adult stuff. QUess what? Grandma said YES without asking me <grins - and laugh is so so good!>

YAY!!! Gigi is not a baby anymore. Girl is getting big!!!! Happy Birthday Gigi

I know you will help her celebrate in your grandpa/Gigi type of way!!

Thanks for the link to your thread about Gigi in the hospital. It reminds me of our ordeal thirty years ago when our daughter, Amber, spent two weeks in intensive care starting when she was two weeks old. She had spinal meningitis. It was probably bacterial although repeated spinal taps and cultures never identified the actual organism. She clearly had meningitis and they suspected it was a viral form but every time they took her off the IV antibiotics she would get worse. At one point the doctors told us she was likely to die and, if she lived she would probably be brain damaged, possibly severely.

But she recovered. As for the brain damage, if she has any she would have outshone Einstein without it, because she is scary smart. She graduates from medical school in a couple of months and her twins, Liam and Eva, are fourteen months old. Since Gigi is only a year old I will be glad to advise you on the care of older grandchildren, although it sounds like you don't need it.

When Amber was in the hospital it must have been so hard for you and your lady wife. It was hard on us, but on Gigi's parents - well it was heartbreaking to see what they were going through - and there was NOTHING at all Dad could do to take care of his daughter.

As far as being a Grandpa - I think its one of the few jobs where you really can't do anything wrong as long as you love the grandbaby.

If I DO anything wrong, or if my spouse thinks I'm doing something wrong - or maydo something wrong - Grandma just takes Gigi anyway.

Life is so so good!

You have to be so proud of Amber, twins - graduate from medical school. Doctors - yeah they can be wrong. So happy to hear of your Amber - thanks for sharing!

It was harder on the wife than on me. Our son was almost two and I was kept busy watching him while she stayed with Amber. Amber was on breast milk and the nurses put a recliner beside Amber's crib and my wife slept in the chair. Since she had more milk than she needed she pumped a bit for some of the other infants in the ward. Gave her something to do -- to take her mind off of her worries. There were lots of worries. While Amber was in the hospital two other (older) children died of meningitis.

Oh, and happy birthday to Gigi. Who knows, maybe we can dance at the same wedding in 20 years or so. Liam is bound to be studly around about then... all grown up and before he starts to lose his hair.

Happy 1st Birthday, GiGi!

I'm sure Grandpa will probably be slinging a stick at my Kullen, (who had his 1st Birthday last week).... in about, oh, 17 years! :)

Bud and I had a "cutest grand baby contest" going on before either of them were even born. We each later agreed that both were beautiful beyond measure.

How time flies...

Bless her heart. I guess she picked up a whole bunch of adopted grand parents when she was mentioned here.

Our sixth comes in April. Gosh, you gotta love 'em.

My dad has only 7 more radiation treatments left, his psa is down to 0.3. He looks great and feeling strong.

MsWorryWart - Kullen is the little bruiser. Yet a very cute one yes!

Its amazing how much joy our little lady gives us. Watching her as she mastered crawling, than standing, now walking has been a real treat. One of the nicest parts of the day when we babysit, Grandma will give Gigi her 9 AM bottle, than after the bottle Gigi falls asleep on Grandma's chest. And Grandma dozes off some also. Grandpa just sits there and marvels at the scene.
