What to expect on Flowmax?

I used it and had to stop because it was causing me to black out. I would just be walking down the street, get light headed and the next thing I know I had a dozen people around me calling 911....I had no clue what happened but it happened 2 more times and finally the drs said in some rare cases certain people have an allergic reaction so they took me off it and the balckouts stopped. Funny thing is it never helped my flow either.

But I was a rare case and probably needed to stay on it longer.

gee, my lack of ED and my strong libido are what works well, why did you have to say that, lol.

not sure how this is going to help, with no prostate or not urinating via bladder and penis, but doc says give it a try. wonder how long it will take to see if it works or not?

he did suggest vesicare. I was on it before, via my own urologist, and it did nothing for me or the problem. I was also on Ditropan for 2 plus years for spasms when I had a working bladder, but that med won't work as I am currently "plumbed". thanks though

dave, that's how flowmax is suppose to work for what it was designed for, for my unique use, I really don't know what to expect, as it will not have anything to do with my flow or burning, because I have an urostomy

okay. I did not have any issues with taking Flomax i.e black out. I have high blood pressure so this med helps in that respect.

Loss of libido is not a common side effect of Flomax. Wikipedia describes its sexual side effects thusly

I was on both Flomax and Avodart for years and years, too. While the Flomax didn't directly affect my libido it did give me dry ejaculations which took quite a bit of the fun out of things. A bit like having a flag with the word "bang" pop out of one's gun. The Avodart did affect my libido directly. I hated both of them and was looking forward to being able to get off them after my surgery. But the surgery, in effect, makes the side effect of the Flomax permanent and I will be on Avodart as part of my ADT3 for another year and a half. (I still hate it, BTW, but not as much as the Trelstar and the Casodex.)

been use to the dry part for over 4 years, never give that a thought any more.

this may be a short lived experiment, as my new doctor is only hoping if nothing else, I can get some relief from the additional pain from the bladder spasms added to the top of my already existing severe chronic pain issues. at least until we can get things sorted out.

with my Urostomy, there is and never will be flow problems, as my kidneys basically empty straight out of my body via the stoma. it flows and flows and flows into the device and holding bag, with no sensations whatsoever.

about 6 months after my surgery I was put on flomax for a month or two as a last ditch effort to control my incontinence. I also tried vesicare.
Neither one did a thing. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I was still incontinent but had no side effects. It was as if I was taking saccharin.
No headaches, no loss of libido (not that it would have made a difference.), no nothing.

Of course my situation was very different from yours - obviously.
We are similar in one respect - we both have a Y chromosome.

Maybe it will have some positive effect for you.

Gee that's a nasty list of side effects. I don't think I'd better go anywhere near Flowmax given that yesterday I suffered from:
mild dizziness;
weakness, drowsiness;
headache;
nausea;
back pain;
blurred vision;
sleep problems (insomnia);
decreased sex drive;
runny nose, sore throat & cough.
and you could add abdo pain, sore skin on my genitals and itching skin on my arms. legs and face to the list too! (Thank god I'm feeling bette today!)

However, if it can block your Alpha-receptors it could clearly help calm your bladder down. I can imagine that your bladder has, as it were, felt very confused of late with nothing to do.

I have been on flowmax off and on for the past month for help passing kidney stones. The docs say it relaxes the ureters between the kidneys and bladder. If I took it, and my blood pressure med, it would cause me to be light-headed at times. When I was using the flomax I stopped taking the BP meds and that solved the problem, and the flomax seemed to be as good a BP medicine as my regular stuff. (And it's cheaper!) Otherwise, for me, there seemed to be no other side effects caused by the flomax.

Taken Flomax for 10years and no side effects.
