I had brachytherapy on 21 February and I am living normally.
My bottom is sore - cushioned chairs, please - but not severe, just uncomfortable. I regained urine function before I left the hospital and I only took pain meds for 8 hours. I am no he-man, and there are certainly after-effects and it seems they are highly individual (as with any PC treatment), but based on my experience I would strongly recommend you consider brachyterapy.
No incision. No catheter. Better sexual function.
I was scorekeeping at a wrestling tournament the 2nd day after the procedure.
I am sure I am in the lucky few, but I have not had to take pain med or Flomax (though I would without hesitation if I needed to). My stream is not strong but it's enough and I can empty. The first pee hurt (and I noted a little slug of partially coagulated blood in the urinal. I'm thinking it was a good thing to push that out before it got any more set. The next few were uncomfortable, but satisfying. You MUST drink water. It does increase frequency, but I am convinced that (assuming things are otherwise normal) the sooner you use the plumbing the better. Bowel activity has been affected but again, mostly just an adjustment.
Sexual function is different, but I have it. Some report painful orgasms and/or loss of libido. I have had neither. Semen is bloody - like after the biopsy.
Your diagnosis is very much like mine. I did not do hormone therapy, but my prostate had not become enlarged. I actually did "active surveillace for 16 months, but second biopsy showed the cancer was slowly advancing, so time to treat it.
As you read the posts in this forum, you will hear hundreds/thousands of stories. The simple fact is that each of us will have our own individual journey, and it will not be a walk in the park but it can give us many years of life that we would not have otherwise have.
After awhile, we get better. And the more you really believe that, the more likely you will have an interesting and enlightening, if regettable, experience. And you survived. And life went on.
So good luck. Listen to your body. Drink lots of water. Pray as necessary.
