Sadly, it is not unusual. Before your husband's surgery he had two urinary sphincters -- one in front of his prostate and another between the prostate and the bladder. This is one of the reasons why men tend to have better bladder control than women; we have two sphincters, you have one.

When a man becomes aroused, assuming he still has both sphincters, the one in the front tends to relax and the one in the back to tighten. This means that when a man ejaculates he does so forward, through the looser front sphincter instead of backwards into his bladder.

When a man's prostate is removed they take the rear sphincter with it and he is left with the front sphincter that tends to relax when a man has sex. Ideally, the sphincter is tight enough that even when a man has sex he doesn't leak that much -- but that varies from guy to guy. Lots of guys who have had their prostate removed find that they start to leak when they have "impure thoughts".

So, yes it happens. And yes, it kinda sucks. Probably best to avoid drinking too much coffee or alcohol on trimix nights and, maybe, set an alarm to wake him up to go pee. By all means add it to your husband's list of complaints for next time he sees his urologist. If he tells him anything useful come back and tell us here.
