Moonlitnight's Bonna Fides

We recently had a new member join us: Moonlitnight. She started a topic about her husband, about whom she is very worried, and then, when she noticed a question about turmeric on another thread, she posted an extended and well-researched answer which made several members suspect she might be a representative for a some company that markets a turmeric-based supplement. This suspicion was compounded by the oddness of the original question (about curing cancer with turmeric, black pepper and olive oil) and by the fact that the poster of the question was a one-post newcomer who created an account, asked the question, logged out -- all in four minutes -- and has never returned to talk about any answers he received.

Moonlitnight was upset by the suspicion of her motives voiced by other members (some of whom could have been a bit more tactful, by the way) and, not needing the aggravation with her husband so ill, she departed the forum, deleting all her comments on the way out.

On the face of it, the purpose of this forum had been badly served. But other interpretations of her actions were possible (notably, that she did have a conflict of interest and by deleting her comments she was covering her tracks by way of damage control.) Since it is difficult to resolve this sort of issue one way or the other inside the forum I reached out to her outside and she has provided me enough verifiable information about her identity and her profession that it seems very unlikely that she has any conflict of interest here. (And for some of you doubting Thomases, I did verify some of it.)

So, while this is not an apology -- I think she overreacted somewhat -- her treatment here was not the forums finest hour and I am inviting her back. She came to us for support, information, and an opportunity to share. She and her husband deserve those things from us.

All of that out of the way, I remain skeptical that turmeric, black pepper and olive oil will cure cancer but it sounds like a promising way to poach a chicken. The turmeric would give it a lovely color.

Once Pca is diagnosed and you decide on a course of treatment, you begin to feel relief. It was a great feeling for me and my wife after we decided on surgery and a date was set to have it done.

When it first hits you, it is like a punch in the stomach. Hearing the "C" word mentioned to you or part of your family can be very frighting. In most cases, Pca is a very treatable disease. We have many men on this site that have had very high PSA results, Gleason scores and various stages of the disease but have great survival stories.
Hang in there. IT DOES GET BETTER!!!

Way to go PeterDA - I too will add to your vouching of moonlit, as I reached out to her via e-mail and did my own confirmation of her credentials - pretty darn impressive and will be as much help to us, as we will hopefully now be to her and her husband. . . .

moolitnight, another wife here. My husband has been battling this disease for 10 years. We've had a lot of joy in those years, a lot of hope. And in an odd way, it gets better because you get better at asking the questions, at getting the information, at advocating for your husband.
Hand in there. You are definitely not alone in this.

Moonlitnight, welcome to HW. In my opinion one of the many values of this board is that (No one fights this alone) You will notice the guys will walk with you on this twisted road. Stay strong.

Thanks Peter - I'm so glad you fixed this. I really thought what happened to moonlitnight was out of character for our board, and am so glad you proved that right.

Moonlitnight -- terrible mishandling by your GP's office, but sadly I have heard many stories like that (I guess they get so used to holding people's lives/hopes/fears in their hands, they forget how much their actions matter and make sloppy mistakes). I wouldn't assume yet that the doctor has looked at the scans and seen mets, unless you've been explicitly told that. This sounds like a doctor who's prone to jumping the gun and quite certain in her judgments, so wait to believe the worst until you have no other choice.

I hope the smoothie did its work, or was at least delicious!

Moonlitnight after the initial shock is gone and you get a treatment plan things do settle down some. While knowing that you have cancer is always there  and your life becomes a series of tests life does go on. Your husband is fortunate to have you by his side in this battle. I was married 32 years and lost my wife to breast cancer in 2010 but I was by her side to the end. The hardest part for me now is going thru this alone although I have two daughters it's not the same as having a partner to help you battle this crap. I'm glad I found this forum and find comfort in the encouragement that I find from the other members.

Moonlit, as you probably know Dr. Gleave is one of Canada's foremost experts who does work with MD Anderson as well. To this point the information you received has been somewhat strange to me, but after April 4th, you'll be well on your way to taking control of your lives.
