Brothers, please forgive my ineptness with this post. It is my 1st ever

After a couple of years of rising PSA's and a nodule felt during my DRE, I had a RP on April 4,2012. My post surgical psa was <0.064. since then they have risen rather rapidly.

Given my post surgical PSA's, is this considered resistant or recurrent prostate cancer?

Also, have any of you had similar PSA's and not had radiation therapy prior to ADT? If so, what were your results?

Welcome.
The last of your PSA stats indicate 2012. Am thinking it should indicate 2013.
If the PSA is trending up after surgery, then that would be considered recurrence.
So you are looking at radiation or hormone therapy or both.
What was your Gleason score:? How old are you?
Were there any positive margins, seminal vesicle invasion or lymph node involvement?

you are correct, my last PSA was in January 2013.

Gleason (4+3) tertiary 5
Grade pT2C No SVI or lymph node involvement

I started hormone therapy on January 8th, immediately after getting my last PSA. I was just wondering if any forum members who have had similar numbers went directly to hormone therapy without having radiation as I have done?

It is typical to begin hormone therapy 2-3 months before salvage radiation therapy. It seems to help the radiation do a better job at killing those stray cancer cells that way.

There are differing opinions about how long to continue the hormone therapy after the radiation therapy is completed. It can be anywhere from a couple of months to a couple of years.

My husbands PSA was never undectable following RP as you can see by his stats below.

His PSA was rising post RP (and the doubling time) as it is considered, so quickly that it was assumed his tumor had already escaped and is now in his spine, so we deceided not to do RT and just did HT so far sucessfully.

Wait for your next PSA test to determine if it will be undectable with HT.

Every man's journey is different so you can't compare to anyone else's journey, I am just sharing with you our case.

what's confusing is you don't say why you went directly to HT.  most guys go for radiation because it's curative but may start HT before radiation. is it because you didn't want to do radiation or because the doctor's advised you to do HT before radiation or have the doctors determined through tests that your cancer is systemic?

Your questions are the same that I have had lately. To my recollection, radiation therapy was never discussed by my urologist. I will be in contact with him this coming week concerning these questions.

At this point, it is of my opinion that he considers it to be systemic, because, my appointment for my 2nd six month injection is set for June 25,2013.

You definitely have classic recurrence post surgery. Surprised they weren't talking salvage radiation with you? Some RO's want SRT without HT, others want to add HT to the mix. Since you just started HT recently, perhaps you will see a downward trend, however, HT isn't typically a curative treatment, where as salvage radiation, if it works, could finish off the cancer.
