My Husband's Five Year Anniversary

To my dear HW friends: This past Monday marked 5 years since John's prostatectomy. We received the results of his PSA test a few minutes ago, and I wanted you all to be among the first to know that John continues to be a big fat zero! His PSA is <0.1 (urologist doesn't use the ultra-sensitive PSA testing method), and has now put John on an annual PSA check.

When I think back to the beginning of this journey, I cannot believe that we have come this far. Though there have been bumps along the way and alot of anxiety (for me), John is doing extremely well physically and mentally. He is pad free (no incontinence but does experience periodic "urgency") and ED continues to be a challenge but we're comfortable with where we are in our relationship and consider it to be a "work in progress".

Shu, the urologist said it depends on the final stage...John was a T3a with a single EPE so the uro wanted to be very cautious. But, once you hit the 5 year mark, PSA generally become annual assuming there were no "bumps" along the way.

Jeff, some year we plan on joining the GFMPH get togethers. John is still working and his employer is a bit "cheap" with paid vacation time hence our hesitation to make the trip this year. Hopefully there will be another GFMPH cruise next year 'cause John and I love to cruise!

that's a huge milestone Sephie.  i'm very happy for you!

my doctor says two more tests and he wants to switch me to annual testing.  he says i'm three years out but i have been saying 2.5 years because i have been counting since the last day of IGRT.  his count started when i had the seeds planted.

Who would have thought this would be an anniversary to celebrate, but with five years of victory, it is woo-hoo worthy! Here's to many more zeros...
