August 2010 surgeries

Greetings to all! I have been away from the site for a long time but decided to take a look today and saw this post near the top. I had my robotic prostatectomy on August 8, 2010 and have been in the zero club ever since. I have had perfect function in all respects since month 15 without any medications and never leaked a day since surgery. I used Muse, injections and Cialis (not at the same time) with disasterously painful and extended erections no matter what dose and mix so I gave up at month 12 and decided if it was meant to be it would happen on its own. And it did. I have been tested every three months due to my pathology and look forward to a reduction of the PSA interval at three years. I have overcome the immediate fear of the disease and have thought about it less and less as the months go by. I have even extended the three month PSA intervals by a month here or there because I just really don't care as much as I once did. I have come to realize the high quality of care I received from my surgeon and the hospital who still keep in touch regularly.

Is that a good day ? That was the first day available at West Bloomfield. I just hope he is well rested from vacation. LOL ! Thank you for your kind offer, it's great knowing I can ask others who had the same surgeon. I really appreciate that.

Thanks so much for reminding me of our "August Club".  Though I hardley post anymore I still check the forum a couple of times a week to check on everyone.  My husband, Geoff, had surgery 8/9/10 and had his last psa 8/2012 (he was still a zero).  He opted not to have a 6 month test in Feb. as he was just retiring and we were moving; didn't need the stress. He has done very well, is happy and healthy and will have his next test in Aug. on his 3rd anniversary.  We've looked at his pc as just a blip in our lives and it spurred him to retire early (he's 59).  Now we're looking forward to other adventures.

Thanks for starting this thread and sorry that I didn't post earlier, we are on a holiday and were out of Internet coverage.

Paul had his RALP surgery on the same day as you, the 20th of August 2010. His surgery was successful in terms of his continance, he never leaked a drop of urine or felt any urgency, in fact his stream got a lot stronger and he feels a lot younger in that department. He is OK on the potency front too, from a physical point of view he has just to take a low dose of Viagra but he is less confident in that department than he used to be so it is a mental game for him. The surgery found that his cancer was 3+4 so we were happy he did active treatment and it was close to the margins too.

His psa results have been a bit anxiety provoking for me, but not Paul, and it has all been good so we are very grateful. I come here everyday for education, advice, community and find it a place in the Internet that feels like a little corner of goodness.

Renee, Aimzee, clock, Ed and all the other August 2010 surgery friends helped us through the most scary parts of this journey along with the many other people who were so supportive in the first few months when things were so scary. These included Sephie, John T, 142, Bronson, Purgatory, Tud, Fairwind and oh so many others.
