This normal with catheter?

i've heard of that before, sounds very normal to me. I didn't have that but have heard many post biopsy and post surgery express the same.

The timing is great, the nurse and doctor will be able to advise you definitively within a few hours.

Congrats on each day. It gets better, keep asking if you have questions.

There will be a goopy drainage around the catheter. The ureter make a jelly like lube normally. This leaks out around the cath.It gets washed out by urine normally. That's why started showering and washing my cath to keep it from crusting and sticking to the cath (ouch!)
Try using a little lidocaine jelly or A and D ointment around the tip of the penis. Minimizing how much the cath moves in and out helps a lot. I found the big bag was too bulky and heavy. I finagled with the smaller leg bag straps a lot just to get the right amount of slack so it neither pulled or moved.

Remember there is a balloon in your bladder that holds the foley in. This will irritate the bladder and cause some pain. An excessive amount warrents a doc visit. Could be a UTI ( infection)

I had lots of clots. And stuff too for the first couple weeks.
Then I tried Kegels and every time I got new clots, pretty scary and I'm a doc too! So i stopped doing them. That persisted for I think 3-4 weeks.
Don't push things too hard . Go slow and give your body time to heal.
It will in it's due time and you can't speed it up.

Bring depends and big pads and a sheet for your car seat. you will piss all over the place when the cath comes out. I was aghast when the cath was removed , no control at all. But that will improve, have faith!

varies guy to guy, but in the range of normal. kind of creepy and irratating for sure.

when they go to pull the cath, the most important part is for the nurse or doctor to wait a few seconds after the release the internal balloon portion (inside you) before they start pulling it out.

i had 21 catheters total, and none of them hurt coming out, again, it kind of feels creepy. most times, nurse had me stand up with my legs spread, and the slippery devils would just come right out like a snake to the floor. oh what a relief that is.

you will, however, miss the part about not worrying about urinating into a bag. hope you don't have any major incontinence issues, it will still take a few days or a week or so to clear out all the gunk.

Yes, all normal. a lot of slicing and dicing went on in there and it will find its way out. Drink lots of water and you should be walking daily. I used to walk the corridors and steps of my hotel in bathrobe,with the catheter and bag attached, much to the grace and consternation of the of the others in the hotel. Pain or shame……..

I just walked in the door from getting my catheter out. 

I had to laugh when the medical tech told me to take a deep breath and when I breathed out he would pull it out.  I faithfully did as I was told knowing full well that according to HW I would only feel a weird sensation. After exhaling I thought, 'wow I didn't feel a thing'. Only then did the tech pull out the catheter and it felt like I was being cut open with a knife. I don't believe Purgatory could go through 21 catheters and not have a single one hurt ...LOL

I got all the way home after an hour without any leaking - other than when I sneezed.  Hopefully that means something positive.  The nurse also told me to not even attempt to hold the urine in as it will make recovery more difficult and take longer.  I'd never heard that before. I can't help myself though, I can't relax enough and my pelvic floor muscles are feeling it (as I have been standing and walking). And kegels were only to be be done for a limited time just before bed.

Now that this fun part of the journey is over I guess I have to now be respectable and not run around wearing nothing but an oversized sweat shirt. The wife is even pressing me to clean up my 'hospital room' now. It looks like catheters, at least for me, can buy a little sympathy.

Yep, when mine was out it didn't hurt, just felt really really weird. I still hope I never have to feel that "weird" again though! lol

So far, this has been a most Good Friday for sure! I made the 2:45 trip home with no leaking and have used the john normally since. I hope this is a sign of whats in store for the next year.

I also found out why my right side, the incisions, were hurting so bad. During the first part of the surgery when they inflate your abdomen, they had adhesion trouble from my appendectomy that was done 25+ years ago. Took the doc longer to cut through all that. He was worried they weren't going to be able to the robotic, and would have had to convert to open.

So far, I'm drinking another beer in toast to this hurdle having been cleared and dry at the same time!

I don't plan on leaving...ever! You guys are my extended family in coping with this beast. I have received so much support and anxiety reduction shots from y'all, you'll never know how much it has meant to me!
I'll be helping as much as possible.

I am the guy that had to live with 21 catheters for a total of 1 1/2 years cath time. not one ever hurt or remotely hurt coming out. 1 of them, I was allowed to remove myself at home, stood in the shower, cut the input side with a pair of scissors and let it drain, the cath mostly just slipped right out to the shower floor. I have read a few rare times that someone reported pain, or one got stuck a little, buts its a rare moment. just glad you got it out, and you too I-spark, glad that thing is out of you.
