Lingering Eligard side effects

 On an intermittant regimen of Eligard.  Took two 3 month shots.  Took a while for side effects to kick in but the usual, hot flashes, memory problems, achiness, weight gain, fatigue. At six months PSA down to .72 from 8.2 Doc says no more shots for a year or so.  I'm OK with that.

 But.. it's now been  a month after my six month shot is done and still having many side effects in some cases more intense than during.  How common/uncommon is this. It is a bit discouraging.  I figured as soon as six months is up I'm back to my old self. Not so much.

Will have my yearly CT/bone scan in June.  Doc is very encouraging looking ahead.  But these hormone side effects are getting real old. Help here always valuable.

Just curious-- when did the SE kick in.

I am 5 weeks removed from my Lupron shot and so far not much to speak of.

Lupron and I believe Eligard, can stay detectable in the body for up to 2.5 years so you could be getting these flashbacks for a while.
Lupron took me from 6to 14 weeks for all the SE's to appear.w

I got two separate 3 month shots. Took about 5-6 weeks before I had any real noticeable side effects.
My Pca doc, when I met with him after the first 3 mo shot(PSA down to 1. from 8.2) and described my reactions he said he wasn't at all surprised. How he explained it is that we've put you through male menopause in 2 months rather than 20 years.(Testosterone level now .0, Pca thrives on testosterone I'm told) And your body is responding accordingly. Because of that the older a man is with naturally declining testosterone levels the less of a reaction he might have to these shots. Sounds reasonable, but who knows.

You are quite right in that an older man will feel less side effects than a younger man. Test. actually feeds the tumor cells.

The older a guy is, and the longer he has been on HT, the slower the return to normal levels of testosterone (it can take over a year). There were studies that showed with some older guys T levels never returned to normal levels on their own. Keep measuring your T levels together with PSA, and see how it progresses over time. Your side effects are related to your low T levels.
