Inguinal hernia and laparoscopic surgery after Davinci

about a year after Davinci I developed an inguinal hernia. Not sure from what, but believe it was a stubborn power washer. It may have been from the surgery, just don’t know. In any event I have been told it cannot be repaired laparoscopically, as I have had a prostatectomy.

Has anyone else had any experience with laparoscope hernia repair after prostate surgery?

I had not heard that they couldn't do it via the scope.

I had an open repair many years ago. It took a few weeks before I could go at full throttle for routine daily tasks.

I did take some vicodin for a day or two.

Wish I didn't as it did cause some miserable constipation!

I understand what you guys are saying. I thought others here have had inguinal hernia repairs via a scope after DaVinci. In fact, I seem to recall a second DaVinci, this time doing hernia repair.

I know a friend of mine had an umbilical hernia repair via scope a year after his DaVinci.

I had a gall bladder done recently via scope. Surgeon said the prior DaVinci was not a problem.

I wonder if anyone here has had a scoped inguinal hernia after rp.

Well, the fact that nobody has posted who had the scope folowing RP seems to tell the story.

I have occassionally had some discomfort in the area and thought I might have a hernia (but so far apparently not as it has gone away). I always thought if it is then I would have an easy scope surgery. I guess not.

As I might have mentioned, I have a friend who did have a scope following his RP but this was an incisional hernia (from the RP).

Unfortunately, I have had the Da Vinci surgery, as suggested and highly recommended by the surgeon, in August 2009; the requirement was a prostatectomy. In approximately September/October 2010, I was having extreme pain in my lower abdominal area; immediately, I noticed undue swelling and/or protruding in that area (immediately I begin to think that I was having bladder hernia); unbearable, I went to MedExpress and the doctor immediately diagnosed my condiotion as hernia. He recommended a specialist/surgeon in that field for immediate investigation and surgery. However, when I went to the initial surgeon about my complaint, findings and appointment, he immediately switched the appointment with a surgeon with whom he has a working relationship. In Dec. 2010, I had surgery to repair the condition which resulted from the Da Vinci surgery, because I have always been an athletic and active individual with no such problem (hernia), until after the prostatectomy. Since then, occasionally, I will get this sharp pain in that area, which my personal doctor suggests that type of surgery may have contributed to tissue scars. Incidentally, this incident has caused me great emotional pains.

I had DaVinci surgery 8/1/11. I developed a ventral hernia at the "exit" incision above the navel not long after the surgery. I had a bulge about the size of an orange. I had laparoscopic surgery april of 2012 to repair the hernia using a tacked mesh patch. The scope repair reduced the bulge considerably but not entirely. The surgeon ordered a ct scan which showed that the tacks on one end of the mesh did not hold. I don`t know if the surgeon screwed up or the bout of broncitis I had caused it to fail. In any event,if and when I have it repaired It must be done open and at my age (75) it could be risky.
