An easy, non-confrontational subject: Hobbies are GFMPH, what is yours?

I forgot to list my own. Should warn you, hobbies change as fast as the wind with me often. Drives my wife nuts, because I get real OCD about something, go whole hog wild with a hobby, then just like that, lose interest, sell off everything related to it, and move on to something new.

I still collect investment grade mint-only U.S. postage stamps, and mint United Nation Stamps.

Been on a kick recently, collecting original automobile brochures, starting from the 1940's and moving forward. Mostly Lincoln, Packard, and Studerbaker stuff, but have quite a varied interest.

Until 2 months ago, sailing would be high on my list. But due to my declining health and prognosis, sold my beloved "Octavia", 17' Siren sailboat. Still hurts to see the empty space in my yard, but was only able to take her out once last season. Its doubtful I will ever own another boat.

Collecting art deco antique furniture - been on that kick for a number of years, have quite a housefull of good pieces

And of course writing. With 3 novels published, always something in progress with me.  And working on my first ever non-fiction book, on my PC journey and PC related lay advice.  Hope to have it finished before winter.

My hobbies? when my son was 4-5 I would buy all these collector soldiers and paint them one by one for him. I'd do that and buy him Britains soldiers (anyone remember them?). I was basically recreating my own youth I suppose. Of course he never really got into soldiers. That lasted a while as it was bloody time consuming. I lived int he gym for several years and played very competitive soccer leagues (mostly hispanic), I love taking photos on my travels. I have a lot of them and have blown up many through a German framing site that produces work for Lumas gallery and have them hanging all over my house. That's my big hobby now. Another hobby I tried starting but struggle with is building frames for pics. I'd kill to be a good carpenter. Frames are so ridiculously expensive in America (at least in this region) that I figured out to try and build them myself. Not so successful with that. What I was successful with was printing out vintage advertising posters on canvas, building a backing frame and stretching the canvas. My kids rooms and tv room are full of those. Then there is the saddest of all hobbies, my job. I had an idea 6 years ago that took 3 years to develop but that has exploded and been a huge success. I live my job now. I have 3 computers in 2 rooms and my iPhone on me at all times. I only go to my office in NYC when I feel like it but I basically work every hour of the day in which I am not sleeping. I sleep with my laptop and our workflow tracker open by my bedside and start skyping with my Indian team around 12.30am. My job is really my hobby/life. I'm like a traffic director and I can direct the traffic from any spot on the planet as long as the internet is good (hence my concern about hotel in Tuscany). My friends tell em this is sad but I created this new dept and I genuinely enjoy it. I feel that without it I would be really really bored here in suburbia.


This board is starting to become a bit of a hobby and that might not be a great thing.

Traveling is definitely a huge hobby. Both my wife and I grew up traveling a lot and we in fact get the itch to move every 2-3 months. This upcoming trip doesn't qualify though. Being in Europe was great for traveling because ther eis so much to see, so many different regions, cuisines, cultures all one next to the other. The plane ride from Rome to Barcelona was basically a quick bus ride.


Lastly, politics. But that actually affects me adversely so I try to stay away from the craziness.

I have spent 10+ grand on RC aircraft. 20+ grand on my pilots license. A lot of grand+ on my guitars and instruments. There's thirty grand worth of ATV's sitting in the garage since I got rid of the new SeaRay and Fleetwood diesel.

Outdoors... tapered off on horse trail riding and mountain biking since PCa, but have become hooked on backpacking with the newer lighter gear now available the last couple of years... add in some peak bagging, ridge running, and high lake fishing, and I am a happy camper... I especially enjoy the bushwhacking off trail explorations... And introducing the grandkids to backpacking...

Around home... finishing trimwork on our house, deer proof garden, and computer programming (yes, I also consider this a "hobby")...

I am holding building a N-gauge train railroad in reserve... I have all the parts and pieces... just waiting until I get too old for some of the other stuff... lol...

Purg I ride a Suzuki Intruder VS1400, its a cruiser style bike if you are not familiar with it. darn shame you can't ride anymore. As far as shooting, I have always loved it, don't know why just do.

I have three hobbies:

Tony... Thanks, I happen to think I'm a pretty lucky gal to have him.

Andrew... My husband also likes tinkering with wood. He built an awesome aquarium to match all of the cabinets in the kitchen so it looked built in, rather than added later. I wish I knew how to post a picture here to show off his talent.

My "other" hobbies are snow skiing, traveling, and taking random pictures that I refer to as "God's Coloring Book." Colors that crayola doesn't have a clue about.

I can be a great cook, but truthfully that white box in my kitchen, with those 4 things that shoots flame... scare me and I view them as a fire hazard that my insurer would not appreciate!

pat - I was into astronomy for years, gave one of my sons my big scope a few years back, and use to love fly fishing. even here in western sc, some good trout rivers, I looked like I stepped out of the orvis catalog, lol.
