Hi Everyone

It's been a while since I've posted. I'm nearly two years post op now and still undetectable PSA, which I'm very thankful for. My erections are about 90% and able to achieve them without meds on most ocassions. However, I have trouble maintaining them for any sustained period. For example, if I indulge in anything like foreplay, by the time I feel like intercourse the erection has gone. So it's got to be intercourse straight away, which is not very satisfying. Does anyone else experience this and if so, have you been told what the cause is and how do you manage it?The meds I'm on is Levitera and they do help, but give me a headache and hot flushes. I tried Cialis and that gave me back ache. What's the opinion on Viagra?

Viagra is about like lavitra, but give it a try. Everyone is different. You can also attempt sex close to bed time so you sleep thru the SEs afterwards. After I've been into having sex for say 15 minutes, I sometimes have difficulty keeping the woody going. I've found that standing helps to prevent this. I take the pill and work on my wife while I'm waiting for the pill to start acting to achieve longer fore play at least for her sake. Also, you can try small 1/4 doses of lavitra or viagra at bedtime to see if you body will acclimate to the drug so you will tolerate it better. Sex has a whole new learning curve after going through these treatments.

You could also try Staxyn. It's the same drug as Levitra but in a form that many men find faster acting and more effective at a lower dose. It is a tablet that dissolves immediately when you put it in your mouth and it enters the blood stream through your tongue not your stomach. The usual dose with Staxyn is 10mg and (I think) most guys do 20mg of Levitra.

Hi: Standing or kneeling work best for me. It may have to due with the "hydraulics". You may be able to start off on your back but if you feel as though you are loosing your erection, switch to a kneeling or standing position and it should come back.

I have found that a small piece of a viagra pill does wonders for me.  about 1/4 or 1/3 of a pill.

It takes about 10 minutes to take effect, and it is very important to be sure to take it on an empty stomach.  I don't experience any adverse side effects.

Gentlemen,

Hear, hear! to both the "hydraulics" and the "partial pill works better".

The first may be obvious to any mechanical engineers amongst us.

The second ameliorates the vicious headaches that come will big levitra doses (for me anyway), but often still gets the job done just fine.

Thought about posting these tidbits a while ago. You beat me to it.

..Sounds like the blood is not staying where it needs too. The veins are supposed to lock in the blood for a period of time, you are achieving erections but loosing them quickly. The blood is leaking back out. That is my opinion from what I have read thus far on the topic at hand. Time to see a professional ED Doctor..

Bob,

You might find this aspect of healing improves between year 2 and 3. You are on track for a complete recovery in that department, so all the advice in this thread should be useful. So is time when it comes to this. If you choose to discard the meds now completely (or alternatively change to another)  then 50% of the time or less you may have this experience, then sometime after year 3 suddenly it could improve. It is certainly like other aspects of ED where the more you think about it, the worse it can get. Rest assured that this too, can improve over time. If you can, try and forget it, as I suggest it could be a part of natural healing for some and will improve, although not necessarily quickly. It could take another year but  you seem to be doing very well. If you are really concerned, seeing a professional (men's health expert) or other specialist is an option too, as others have said.  My husband had something of this experience, and this response is based on our experience. With the vacuum device, a rubber ring is placed at the base of the penis before the device is removed, thus helping to hold in the blood. You don't need the vacuum since you are able to achieve an erection, but a ring might be useful in holding the erection. You might want to research this and of course talk to the doctor about this. At least you won't have to deal with the unpleasant side effects of meds.

My experience with Viagra pre-op, is it gave me headaches and indigestion, so I stopped using it.  But, everyone is different, so try it? 

Prior Doc gave me a sample of Staxyn with instructions to take it on empty stomach and an hour before sex.  I tolerated that very well and was pleased with the results.

It does sound like you're doing great!  Do seek advice from your urologist.  If he/she doesn't have any good suggestions, don't be afraid to seek a second opinion.
