Finally broke the 1.0 barrier

Just past 19 months from brachytherapy, and my PSA has finally broken the 1.0 threshold, and came back @ .80 from Wednesday's exam. It's been a slow drop and I had hoped to be at this point sooner. But the good news is I'm there now, and still headed in the right direction !

Unfortunately, I get to have a cystoscopy next week to figure out some lingering urination issues. Fun, fun !

Was that 0.8 or 0.08?

Major Congrats on breaking the 0.10 threshold - keeping going for the low - and being undetectable - PSA<0.10 - being 0.80 is great !!

That is very good news indeed, congratulations.

I had many a "scope" in my times previous, never any fun. Hope they can get to the bottom of your
other issues. Really helps with the scoping if a heavy glob of lydacaine is used, and allowed to numb before they insert the scope. I found it was best for not to look at what was going on, but to try to lie back, close my eyes, and try to relax. They never hurt me as much as I was expecting.

I edited my posts to show the correct PSA value , which is .80 . I got a little overly excited in my original post and put an extra "0" in, making it look like .080. I understand that us radiation guys will probably not reach an undetectable level. I am still thrilled about the drop.

Regarding the lingering issues. I have been running the gamut of urinary problems for the last couple of months. During the day at work, I have extreme urge incontinence, and can barely make it to the bathroom at times. During the evening, stream slows to very weak, and getting up 2-3 times a night to go. Sometimes very difficult to get started at, and bladder is spasming to go and straining. Last couple of weeks , I've been having some blood in my urine. All, the while taking .4 mg of Flomax.

URO thinks it may scar tissue causing a stricture, but did want to do to a scope to rule out a tumor in the bladder, caused by the brachytherapy. From everything I'm reading, secondary cancer from radiation treatment is pretty rare, so I'm not worried about that at this point.

Well, powellst you are an overachiever. It took me 2 years to break the 1.0 barrier. You probably can run a mile faster than me, also!

Sorry about the urination issues and I hope you get a quick resolution.

Congrats on getting below the 1.0 mark, and also for the continued steady drop - good for you! Now focus on the urinary issues-find an expert if you need to as this should be something that can be addressed. And no, there is nothing to substantiate secondary cancer from radiation treatment.

Congratulations. The rate of drop is not as important as the continuous downward movement.
