Never thought I'd be on the forum at 6 mos post-surgery with ED, but here I am. I've been using the pump almost every day along with 20mg Ciallis twice weekly. I've really not obsessed about it thinking it would turn around anytime, but....

I have an appt. with the ED specialist on 7/29, but I'm beginning to wonder what's going on here. I had total nerve sparing and have sufficient sensation to have an orgasm, but no erection. Can get erect using pump, and little Elvis stays plump and firm for a couple minutes afterward, but nothing usable.

Any ideas? I think I'm going to see if I can get some Viagra on top of regular Cialis.

Usually when guys switch between PDE5i drugs (Cialis, Levitra, Viagra, etc.) they are looking for one that doesn't make their nose stuffy, or their back ache, or make everything look blue. Most of the time, if one doesn't work the others won't either. That's not to say that if you ED doc offers you samples of the blue pills or the white ones you shouldn't try them to see if they work where your yellow ones have failed. Just don't get your hopes up too much.

It can take a long times for the nerves to recover from being pinched and stretched during surgery and lots of guys who recover full potency later have nothing going on at six months. So don't give up. But your ED doc can help you in the meanwhile. There are ways to get your hydraulics back online and keep them exercised while you wait.

Do you use a ring with your VED? They take some getting used to but they can keep your erection from going away after you pump. That's one thing your ED doc might talk about.

If he mentions injections you might ask about "trimix". It is much much less expensive than Caverject and offers more flexibility in dosing.

I agree...you need more rehab at this point and trimix will certainly give you that...I wish that I did not wait a full year before I got started on it.

I found that using trimix started my system working again....slowly it is all coming back and now, after over 2 years, things are looking up..... :-)

There is lots of good information here on using trimix properly....don't pass it up....

Thanks. Yes, I tried the rings ONCE and only once. I may not have used it properly, but it snapped on and nearly killed me. They are just too medieval for me - can't go there. Just read about injections and I don't think there's any way I can go that route.

The injections are a piece of cake...you just have to get past the mental part of it....lots of guy's have felt the same way as you with that, but once they got started, no turning back and the best thing they could have done.

There is really no pain when done properly and you can have a woody for over an hr or more, wow !!! mans best friend when you can do that :-)

Don't pass this up, the more you read, the more you will understand it and be more willing to give it a try....

You may want to get a copy of Dr. John Mulhall's book, "Saving Your Sex Life, A Guide for Men With Prostate Cancer", or try googling his name and the subject. I think his information on Penile Rehab might help you. Dr. Mulhall is one of the leading Penile Rehab docs.

I am somewhat surprised that your urologist has not suggested injections. From what I've read, it is important to get fresh (oxygenated) blood into the penis and that if you are not responding to the pills the only way to get the oxygenated blood in is through injections. Pumps do not bring much fresh blood in ... they trap deoxygenated blood. You may want to discuss this with your urologist.

For me, Levitra works much better than the Cialis or Viagra; however, I know guys who swear by Cialis and/or Viagra.

At six months your nerves are still recovering from surgery, some of us just do not recover quickly .... I was still seeing improvement after three years. Just keep working with the doctor on Penile Rehab.

While you are reading this reach up and give your right earlobe a really good pinch. If you do it right you should notice a bit of lingering sting that lasts for two or three seconds. Go ahead. I'll wait.

Done? Good.

You have now experienced more self-inflicted pain than you will feel when you inject yourself to get an erection with trimix. Why do you assume you can do the one but not the other?

It's easier than you think.

Sorry to here its not going well. I can share my experience.

I am just about 6 months post surgery as well and am fairly happy with my ed results, even though they are similar to yours. My doctors told me up front to expect at least 1 and more likely 2 years before I would fully recover. I had nerve sparring surgery and have been on 20 mg levitra twice a week since a week after surgery. I am able to develop a non-penetrateable erection with manual stimulation (no pump). I definitely see progress week to week.

I'm not an expert on the pump, but do believe that my "therapy" sessions are valuable. At least once, if not two or three times a week, I manually stimulate (even on the days I don't take the levitra). The results aren't always great, but the trend has been positive.

For me, as long as I am making progress here, I'll stay with my plan - not a fan of injections :(

Franco: I too had total ED at 6 months and also at 12. At 13 months there was slight improvement and now as I approach my 2 year anniversay (July 19th, this coming week), my ED has nearly totally resolved itself. No pills, no pumps, nor injections needed now. I never would have believed that it would resolve after 1 year of total ED but it certainly has. Be patient and relax about your situation. Being upset and too concerned will only work against achieving erections. More doctors should inform us that it takes much longer than we are led to believe. I had immediate urinary control so I was feeling quite confident that erections would be a breeze. My surgeon said "no sex for 2 months", so naturally I figured I would be ready to go by then. Not the case. But as I mentioned, it all eventually came back. Give it time, my friend.

When I took a full dose of lavitra at 6 months and my wife performed oral on me, my penis would get longer and that was all. Don't be discouraged, you still have plenty of time to heal. I injected trimix 111 times between four months and 18 months. Here is a long post that I made a while back telling of my ed journey:

I'm 3 months post-op with total ED. Pills do nothing for me at this point. Sounds similar to Franco's situation (but he's at 6 months).

I use bimix for rehab and intercourse 3x per week with very good results. I use Cialis or Viagra 1-2x per week for rehab, even though I get no reaction with stimulation. I use a pump 1x per week or so for rehab only. (I tried the rings once. Never again.)

The injections really aren't that bad at all. I highly recommend giving it a try.

6 months is too early to be expecting erections. Thr recovery from ED after surgery is a slow process and you have to be patient. At 6 months that is what everyone kept telling me but I didn't want to be patient. Recovery does come but it could take 1, 2 or more years with a gradual improvement. Keep up the therapy and be patient. At 2 1/2 years I still need cialis but it is no big deal. I am just pleased that I can get an erection good enough for normal activity.

I'm 8 weeks out. Consider trying the injections. I'm using bimix for rehab. It is "different," but I do get long and firm, though not really "standing up." The needles are super skinny, so pain is not a factor.

My doc says muliple approach for rehab is the best, so I'm taking 5mg Cialis daily and alternate a pump session with injections every other day.

I agree about the rings popping off the VED felling something like a bear trap. But, I'm working up to trying again or trying with a different ring type.

Not to hijack the thread, but could my GP be the doc for injections, scripts and such, instead of my surgeon?
In other words, do you have to use a urologists to get trimix/bimix meds to help with ED?
I'm currently between uro's. :-\

In theory, yes. Your GP can write the scrip, give you the first shot, etc. etc.. It would all be legal. But I'll bet he/she won't. It would involve too many thorny malpractice problems.

You could ask, I suppose, but that phone call would be better spent finding yourself a new urologist.

Anywho, I found a ED drug called TriMix-Gel, It may be something to consider for those who don't won't to use a needle.

You might want to confirm that it is still available before you make lots of plans. I am of the impression that the company that used to make trimix-gel doesn't sell it anymore and what you found are internet ghost-ads from years and years ago.

BTW: from all accounts trimix-gel didn't work very well. The same guys used to make "trimix for travel" which they claimed didn't need refrigeration. I think that is gone, too.

Let us know if I am wrong and these are still orderable somewhere. A room temperature-stable trimix would be handy for travel.

It looks legit. I found a press release. Apparently the manufacturer found a compounding pharmacy willing to give the product another go about four months ago.

I followed you link after I deleted it. I notice that their price list doesn't have any prices. If you call them you might let us know here what they say. I notice that the gel contains a lot of the drugs (to make up for the poor absorption, I guess). The drugs cost money.

And there's still the whole "doesn't work very well" problem to get past...

I don't see what the problem was, with the link, it wasn't for an off shore pharma., or for a questionable site. It looked legit and I was posting the info that some guys may be interested in.

As of now, I'm not a user of bimix, trimix, or any other mix. Just a dude researching treatments to help fix ED problems. ( my own mad )

Anywho, I was just sharing the info that I found while searching on "trimix", this one happens to be called Trimix-Gel and thought it may be worthwhile to someone.

Yes, no doubt some will be interested -- and they can either ask you or Google for the product name. We try to keep links to sales websites off the forum, no matter how legit, because if we allowed them we would be up to our keisters in spam. Plenty of info remains on this thread for anybody to find the site and if they can't they can also email me and I will assist them in their search.

But there's nothing to keep you from talking about the product if you use it, or asking if others have. Just no links to commercial websites.

..I am going to get my first shot of trimix from Dr Mulhall from MSK this Thursday. I am 10 weeks post Op and ready to lay some pipe. Sounds nuts and a few months ago I said no way, before surgery. But now I am ready to go for it and it helps in rehabilitation too.. Oh I think my wife is ready too..

..Gedman.. Surgeon was Dr Lee Richstone from The Smith Institute for Urology, NS/LIJ. Radiation will be done by Dr Nori from NY Hospital of Queens. I make the rounds at all these places. I am from Whitestone Queens a real Borough Boy..

I met Dr. Nori once for a consultation before I chose LARP as my primary treatment. I'm told that he's excellent.

Best of luck with injections. It's been smooth sailing for me after the first 3-4 shots while I got used to self-injecting and found my right dosage.
