Pathology finally back

We finally got pathology report today, but it wasn't surprising. It confirmed how extensive the cancer was...prostate, bladder, urethra, both seminal vesicles, bladder neck, fatty area near rectum wall, perinueral invasion was present and two lymph nodes. Neither testicle had any cancer. By the grace of God, and Dr. Ward's skill, negative margins were obtained. So now we play the waiting game to see if the node involvement will show it's ugly head somewhere down the road. We'll see oncologist when we come back in Sept to find out how he wants to proceed. But today is a great day, as far as I'm concerned.

Doctor also said that he was healing great, and the infection at the incision site is healing nicely. Because it was such a major surgery, it's going to take some time before he's feeling stronger. We're scheduled to be in Houston another week, but may just extend that by another week. Until he's strong enough to endure the 2 hr flight home plus airport time, we might as well sit tight and get stronger.

Again, I cannot say how much this site and the people here have helped me. Thank you all for the support and prayers.

Sounds like he has been through a lot. Evidently you have a great doctor, Houston also has some fine hospitals. I used to live there years ago. Your plan to stay a little longer sounds wise.

Very happy to read about the pathology report. It is amazing to me, with that much involvement, that he walked away with negative margins. Must have been some surgeon to pull that off. Hope that bodes well for him in the future.

Thanks everybody. We are so glad that we decided to stay with MD Anderson for our treatment. I honestly believe that we wouldn't have had the same results if we stayed at Duke. Grant it, harder on rest of the family being out here, and will so happy to get back to the Smoky Mountains. If anyone is thinking about MD A for treatment, I highly recommend it. Even though it was tricky and delicate work, Dr. Ward didn't give up until he got negative margins, I think that's the difference....his confidence and the whole mentality of MD A.

MsWorryWart, I'm hoping to we can make a side trip to Thibodaux when we come back in Sept. Missing me some Bourgeois cracklins:)
