After almost 7 months on an estrogen patch, trelstar, casodex and avodart, I am stopping in a couple of days. For those that have gone off ADT, and I realize it affects everyone differently, but will I notice any difference right away?

Since I'm following you, I sure hope the answer you get is "yes."!

But let me ask you about your estrogen patch? Was that to deal with the hot flashes? If so, how did it work for you?

Mine took a lot longer than expected, although I was told the time frames vary among different men. After 12 months of hell, it took me another 12 to get back to where I was originally. And in all fairness and in terms of other possible outcomes, it was not as bad as I sometimes complain about. If you have any specific questions on my venture back to normality, just fire away!

I've been off Lupron for almost 10 weeks now and all I can tell you is what my experience has been to this point and what my Dr. told me.

First the Dr. told me that I would probable see some difference after at the 2 mo. point but not to expect complete recovery till the 18 mo. mark. What I have experienced is not typical. After 4 weeks my hot-flashes and joint pain had all but disappeared and the fog and fatigue was better. At 9 weeks I'm still improving and I just had my PSA and T tested. PSA undetectable and T was 202 (not typical at this point). Still not where I was but sure don't miss the hot-flashes and joint pain. The point is that you will get better!

I was on ADT for 18 months, went off, 6 months later my testosterone was 480, considerably higher than it was when I was diagnosed...(280)..I was beginning to feel like a man again..Alas, the PSA (I was in the zero club) also started moving up so now I'm back on the ADT for the duration...

I have heard that recovery from ADT depends on your age and how long you were on the drugs...They say that after 3 years of ADT, the effect becomes more or less permanent..

I am going to start testing the 3-years-and-it-is-permanent theory later this Fall. I will be reporting on how it goes.

Thanks for the replies. The estrogen patch was intended to reduce or eliminate symptoms, such as hot flashes. I had none. I can only assume the estrogen patch was the reason.

The other symptoms, well that's a different story. Testosterone hovering around 30 right now,

I was on 6 months of Trelstar and the hot flashes vanished about 3 months later. Some fatigue lingers but that may be due to the crazy shift work that I have. Testosterone is back up to 402 - 6 months post treatment. My normal was mid 500's. Can't complain and I feel that the ADT was worth it, I think it helps starve the cancer cells while the radiation does its work.
