has anyone had any success with shrinking tumors with natural methods, food, supplements, etc

I don't think there is any real medical proof that food based diets will shrink or cure cancer. that being said, there is eveidence that a whole food, plant based diet helps. If nothing else it's great for your heart and will keep you alive longer from that stand point. I've looked into this quite a bit, including alkaline diets, and although there is some promise, there's not enough good, sound medical evidence in what I've read for me to hitch my wagon exclusivly to food based remedies. I look at it as eating well to help my body defend itself and keep my heart strong.

There was a clinical trial by Dr. Ornish that showed that a plant based diet with no meat plus pomegranate slowed the PSA doubling time by a lot. The trial was of patients with early stage prostate cancer. It was done by University of California San Francisco.
There was no cure just a big retardation in PSA doubling time.
Beside that there is not a lot of clinical proof.

I agree with Jim's take on this as it cant hurt to be on the offense. My wife gives me OJ with lemon juice 2x a day for the alkaline and some supplements, but I also eat healthy including lots of veggies and fruits and limit any red meat. Shoot, not sure if it helps, but for me it is better than doing nothing. I am also that way with exercise.

Are you on the hunt for a “miracle cure?”   If so, you are looking in the wrong place .   But if you are looking for solid evidence of whether lifestyle choices can affect PSA (which is used as a direct marker for prostate cancer tumor growth), then you’ve come to the right place . Well, your question was:   “ has anyone had any success with shrinking tumors with natural methods, food, supplements, etc ”, so I suspect that you are simply looking for ways that others have approached the mantra of “STOP FEEDING THE CANCER.”   There was a landmark study conducted by world-renowned prostate cancer expert Dr Peter Carroll which can help answer your question.   Here’s what that study did: ·          Start with a group of men with biopsy-verified low-risk PC who all agreed to forego conventional treatments for at least one year.   ·          Check each participant’s PSA…the “before” number.   ·          Split the group randomly into two equivalent groups.   Ask one group to make significant diet/lifestyle changes, and ask the other group not to make any changes.   ·          Check each participant’s PSA again after one year…the “after” number.  Compare to the "before" for trends.     So, all of the men in the study already had prostate cancer.  And here is the one and only caveat of this study…they all had what we today call “low-risk” prostate cancer.   Intermediate- or high-risk PC patients were not studied. THE RESULT:  (i) The control group that was asked to not make changes in their diet & lifestyle saw their PSA (as a whole) predictably, slowly increase.  (ii) The PSA of the study group decreased.  Since these men already had prostate cancer, their goal was to control...they demonstrated that it was not too late for their diet & lifestyle changes to be effective.  What diet & lifestyle changes were the study group asked make?  They cut red meat & dairy, ate lots of fruits vegetables, whole grains.  Stress reduction through yoga-based stretching, meditation and relaxation exercises for an hour per day.  Exercise by walking 30 minutes at a moderate pace 6 days per week. The other interesting finding in the study was that it was NOT, "All or nothing'?"   The study found that there was a direct correlation between the degree of lifestyle change and the inhibition of prostate tumor growth.  The more you do, the better; but it's not "all or nothing." Of course, everyone’s body responds differently.   Not everyone in either the control group or the study group responded identically…but meaningful studies examine populations, not individuals. So, the answer to your question, as it applies to low-risk men, is “yes.”   In high-risk men, there have been several sets of studies which have consistently found pomegranate juice/extract slows the doubling time of PSA (again, as a direct measurement of the growth of PC tumors).   While some men’s PSA actually reversed and other men were unresponsive to the study, the population PSA slowed down by a considerable amount. So, the answer to your question, as it applies to high-risk men, is “yes.”   Results of both these studies can be found free online at PubMed ( LINK ), which is a central repository for medical research, funded and operated through the good use of our tax dollars by the US National Library of Medicine through the National Institute of Health.  Try it out!  (make use of the "search" function) So what’s up with you?   Do you have PC?   Welcome to the site, but the first, and perhaps most important question for you to be able to answer (if you have been diagnosed with PC) is “what is your risk-category?”   For more info on this plus a wealth of other educational materials, be sure to read the thread at the top of the page titled, “ Newly diagnosed with PC? – read this thread first ”          

I believe that diet does affect cancer.

The problem is, I really don't believe we can reverse 60 yeas of improper diet with 6 months of correct eating. So, changing our diet is a good thing, and can add months, maybe years to our life, but we mst likely will still have cancer.

I see many guys here hoping to eliminate the problem, not just decreasing our PSA doubling times.

Food based Healing?  Don't kid yourself for long.......a nice happy thought but there is something going on that a change of diet wont stop.....

I live about 2 hours or less from Ft. Jackson, so you were real close.

If you were heading to FL down I-95, it would be about 2 hours out of your way to cut over to my part
of the state. We live right off of I-85, which connects Atlanta and Charlotte.
