Still have slight discomfort from rectal and penile pain....

Sorry to hear this, but you are still fairly soon out of surgery. The rectal pain for me, post open surgery, lasted about 6 months (not to discourage you), my surgeon said it could take as much as a year. Never had any penile pain related to the surgery. As far as your bladder goes, it just simply takes time to get use to its new position and angle in your body, as well as adjusting to the all so delicate bladder neck to urethra connection. Where as your bladder formerly had two mounting points, one being the prostate itself, it now only has one.

Are you needing any prescription pain meds for these pains, or mostly handling it with OTC stuff, or just toughing it out. Since a lot of has to do with swelling, Advil would be the best for inflammation and swelling issues, if you tolerate it and its ok with your doctor.

Hopefully, you will see gradual lessening of all these issues, need a little more patience.

Glad to hear you are taking something for the pain, those that take the "tough it out" route miss a valuable point in my experience and opinion, too many nurses and doctors tell me that pain is a signal from the body, and when you ignore it by refusing meds, it only retards the healing process, so there's no need to suffer needlessly.

I truly hope you do well. How are you doing on the incontinence side, or is that not an issue for you? At 8 weeks, I can assume its too early on the ED front, or are you seeing signs of life from the little fellow?

I'm 8 weeks post and I'd say I'm still having some mild pain - nothing serious - mostly, the occasional brief cramp or spasm from somewhere in the region of where they mucked about. I also had a hernia repair, which still occasionally smarts - although recently I noticed that maybe it is bothering me a little less than it was before. I went back to the gym this week and started doing a little cardio etc - I think the movement and stretching are helping.

Today however, after I spent the day volunteering at my kid's back-to-school picnic, my body reminded me that I had surgery last month in the strongest possible terms. Advil and a hot shower were enough to make me feel comfortable again - but let's just say I have a clear mental picture of where the good pain medication is stored in the medicine cabinet, even if I didn't use it this time...

I'm 12 or 13 weeks out (RALP 5/29), I had the pain at tip of penis frequently throughout the day and sometimes when sitting I felt a sharp pain in rectum which I described to my wife as having a kitchen utinsel stuck up there. Usually if I shifted my position it went right away, but it occurred five or six times each and everyday. Neither pain was debilitating, just annoying.

Just yesterday morning on the way out to breakfast I mentioned to my wife, I just realized it but I haven't had that pain in the tip for over a week or two. It then occurred to me that the other pain has been absent for the same time period.

As far as bladder, prior to surgery I'd drink nearly a pot of coffee and sleep eight hours solid. Post surgery, half a pot, cut off two hours prior to heading to bed, and get up 2 or 3 times a night.

Rich and Spark, thanks for the response, I guess I'm just impatient...lower area pain front and back slowly getting better as time moves on. Post op PSA checked on 8/6/13 and returned at 0.020
