Update after 2nd bladder neck scar removal surgery

Hubby had his 2nd surgery to remove scar tissue blocking his bladder neck today.  Surgeon says it went well.  However, even though this is only his second surgery, Uro is going to have him start catheterizing himself once a day for 6 weeks , then once every other day for 6 more weeks (once cath from this surgery comes out on this Thursday).  Hubby dread this, but realizes that it is probably the best/only option to ensure that the scar tissue doesn't close the bladder neck yet again.  He did much better tolerating the anesthesia   this time.  No vomiting and he is less groggy and 'out of it'.  Fingers crossed!!!   

 

I did that last spring. Not fun, but with enough lube and numbing agent its not that bad. There's many things we all do now with cancer that we never thought we would ever do in a million years.

Follow you docs' instructions to the tee. You will be surprised at how flexible old willy can be and how much abuse he can take if you know what I mean. It helped me. Made a world of difference. Good luck.

Thanks for all the support guys!  When I went to the drug store to get hubby's antibiotic and other meds, I was going to pick up some more tecnu first aid gel (it has LOTS of lidocaine).  We used it last year after hubby's DaVinci prostectomy, and it really helped ease some of the cath discomfort.  Well, it wasn't there!  Luckily my favorite pharmacist was on duty and I asked him if they still carried it or was it just out of stock or what.  He came over and helped me look at the other OTC stuff.  Then he said, "I have what he really needs- a prescriptions strength gel.  Let me call your dr.'s office"  And he did- right then and there!  Doc agreed and it will be ready tomorrow morning!!!  Hopefully it will ease things along  .

Here's hoping they got it this time. The self-cath doesn't sound nice to have to do but makes sense.
