If surgery fails, what is the cure rate if external radiation is utilized?
Ok, I know this is an wide open and ambiguous question.
But I can't find anything on the probably of IMRT or other forms of radiation.
Does anybody know the ballpark probably for cure after surgery failure?
Thanks,
Nick
It probably depends on each individual case. I visited a Mayo radiation oncologist who confirmed that my particular case could be cured either by radiation or surgery.
He told me that it was 90% likely that surgery would cure me. And, in the event of a need for salvage radiation, the radiation completes the cure in 7 out of 10 cases I asked him if this meant that my chances for cure were therefore 97% and he said yes.
My particular case was a very small single tumor of Gleason 6. Similar cases would presumably net similar cure predictions.
You should probably ask a radiation oncologist about
this based on your own personal case and you'll probably get a reliable answer.
Good luck!
