Sorry that I haven't been on in a while.....doing well post-surgery with Dr. Tewari in April of this year. (Had appendicitis over Labor Day weekend and was hospitalized, but that's another story and doing fine from that!) Last PSA in July was undetectable.

Just got off the phone with Dr. Tewari's office for Cialis prescription reauthorization. During that conversation, I learned that Dr. Tewari will be moving from New York Presbyterian to Mt. Sinai. So, Dr. Samadi leaves Mt. Sinai for Lenox Hill, then Mt. Sinai gets Tewari. Not good news for me, as Mt. Sinai is out of network for my insurance. My surgical experience at NYP was excellent...private room at no extra charge, wonderful nursing staff.

Not sure if this had been posted already, but wanted to share the news. Dr. Tewari is an excellent surgeon, and I would recommend him, but these are interesting changes....

Yeah, Mount Sinai was out of network for me too when I decided to use Samadi regardless.

I just had all my records moved from Mt. Sinai to Lenox Hill.

I think it gives us a sense of security to continue being followed by our... "maker" for lack of many better words.

They do play musical chairs. I believe Samadi hiself was at Columbia before Mt. Sinai.

It's like free agents and sports, I suppose.

You only need yearly PSA and consultation, right? If so, I think that would be worth it in return to stay with your guy.

Not sure what the timetable for the move is....will be interesting to see what happens. Dr.Tewari and his staff are great, but they aren't always the best about returning phone calls. They were telling me since the summer that they were "short-staffed and trying to increase the team." Now, huge amount of work to move, notify patients, transfer files, etc. Hope they will be getting the extra help that they need!

I think NYP won't transfer your files without your written consent.

To have my files moved from Mt. Sinai to Lenox Hill I had to fill out a form MT. Sinai sent me. And when they still failed to transfer my file, I had to call Dr. S office and ask his staff to assist me.

This is big news, indeed (for Dr. Tewari's patients, at least). I'll be seeing Dr. Tewari pretty soon and see what I can find out.

 Thanks for the heads up - Im trying to get through to his office, but they are sending all calls to an answering services ( a little bush league if you ask me). I left a message and hopefully they will call me back. i will rely what i find out

They often didn't answer the phone. My experience with them, as noted above, has been great quality of care, but not the best communication. I bet they are being overwhelmed with transition work. If they don't call back, keep pestering them. Good luck!

Just had it confirmed from Tewari's office. His last day in NY Presbyterian is 10//14. letter is going out to all patients later this week.

Still no public announcement that I have found....and it was only in January that he was named to head a new prostate cancer center at Cornell.

Wonder if his practice offices will be the midtown ones that Samadi used.....

Further Internet research shows that Dr. Samadi, even though now with Lenox Hill, still has his midtown offices, so I guess Dr. Tewari will be setting up his practice at the hospital on 98th street, or somewhere else.....

Dr Tewari’s sterling reputation for professionalism will undoubtedly follow him to Mt Sinai.

Tewari is admirably recognized among his peers as NOT being a surgeon who rushes patients into surgery, despite him being an internationally recognized leader in robotic RP surgery.

In fact, Dr Tewari published an article this year in the AUA News that active surveillance (AS) should be the treatment of choice for low-risk men, and he has hundreds of men on AS in his practice.





Robotics is an extremely lucrative field which seems to sway some from offering evidence-based, conscious-based urologic services; in fact, one surgeon who asked not to be named commented for an article (not Tewari's AUA article) said, “There is too much money to be made to really push it [active surveillance].” The comments that one finds being made amongst the elite peer group of urologist/surgeons can be very revealing about reputations…not all are so sterling as Dr Tewari’s.
