Zimac,

Your report was more in line with what I was hoping to read. Someone with first hand knowledge, of Marinol being used by someone dealing with advanced PC and chronic pain. Sounds encouraging from what you wrote. Glad he got that kind of relief, at least on the pain end. It is odd that he saw no improvement on the appetite portion.

I am a recovering drug addict (hard drugs) and I voted against recreational marijuana on GP but for medicinal purposes hell yeah it should be legalized and discussed. I live two blocks from a dispensary and for the first year I didn't even know what it was.  much rather live next to it than a bar.

also, when I walk my dog at the park I occasionally find empty wrappers and tins from various medical pot stores. so what! there are waaaay more beer and booze bottles and you never hear of anyone taking a bong hit before a rampage shooting because they go to jack in the box instead.

we ain't in the 50s anymore :D.

My mother is juiced up on so much morphine she'd make William Burroughs himself blush. I never understood why it was socially acceptable to be on morphine for cancer purposes but socially unacceptable to smoke to help appetite and fight feeling sick.

The junk helps her and that's all that matters. Same with medicinal pot.

I had a rather colorful youth but never saw as much chaos and damage as when I came to America in college and witnessed binge drinking.

I don't think a cancer patient like me would benefit from it, I think a cancer patient dealing with chemo would benefit from it.

What I read here (Edited - Sorry Ziggy)and are willing to throw more millions into the failed drug war. The fact that it does help many medically (not specifically many Pca victims, I'll agree). The past policy has ruined many lives through draconian laws they want continued. This from many who grew up in the 1960s and should know better.

I'm about to leave HW for it's time and there has been established a kind if cadre here who all seem to form an approved view on whatever subjects and then enforces their political correctness through censorship. Some of you have simply been here way too long in time and/or high volume of posts. This should not be a semi exclusive club house. I'm not one to make grand farewells. I'll just continue to fade away.

Hope you stay. I am amazed at some of the (Edited - Sorry, Mel) I'm reading. We are not talking about getting high or some sort of recreational drug use. If I am in severe pain and MM helps, who are any of you to tell me not to use it. We are here because we have a disease with the potential to put us in a state of misery. I am appalled at the attitudes some of you display.

If you are having unspeakable misery, and if MM was the best choice in terms of pain/nausea/misery relief with the best SE profile, are you saying you would not take it? Dogma sure can be powerful.

Maybe it's time for a (((GROUP HUG))).

Lets not divide the group here into Haves and Have Nots... Or Do's and Dont's etc....

The only thing that has changed is that some conversations about pot can now be talked about without breaking the rules.

disappointed. your post makes you sound almost as judgmental the other way around, as you are accusing some here as being.

I am for legitimate MM uses only (and not for myself, even though I deal with constant, severe, chronic pain). MM has little use for those with PC, unless they are near the end and in great pain, or suffering from extreme weight loss and wasting disease as the result of chemo and other harsh treatments.

Based on how both sides have posted to this thread, starting to understand why Peter originally just kept the subject taboo here. Looks like it will be just another topic to polarize members. So much for the "big tent" approach, where all topics should be able to be discussed openly.

Seems simple to my simple mind. If one is totally opposed to M or MM, then there's no reason to even post on a thread like this. But if one sees that there can and could be some benefit for those in true need, then it could be a very important topic to discuss.

Certainly don't think you need to leave, but of course, that is a choice only you can make. Diversity in opinions is what makes life interesting, in my opinion.

There are peer reviewed studies that show marijuana use causes testicular cancer, psychosis and schizophrenia.

You gotta weigh the pros and cons. If you've got advanced cancer and pot helps alleviate some of the issues someone in that situation has, it probably greatly outweighs the very slim chances of developing testicular cancer.

As for psychosis and schizophrenia, doubt it. But again, one has to be in the shoes of someone needing the pot in that moment in order to determine the relevance of those studies (i've never read them).

My grandpa and grandma took marinol. They hated the dry mouth and constant munchies, but it helped them out. This was in the 80s. I was a teen at the time and so tempted to dig in, never did though.

In the narrow scenario I've depicted, if MM alleviates my extreme suffering, why should I be denied usage?

We are not talking about someone heading down the wrong path. Do you seriously think I should worry about developing testicular cancer down the road?

If I try it and it helps me at such an urgent time, am I going to wait for some peer reviewed studies? C'mon

hmmm, there are people who's company I enjoy so much more when they "mellow out".

Anyway, to me this is more about pros and cons. For legitimate use in cancer patients that benefit from it I would say the pros greatly outweigh these potential/theoretical cons. That's my take.

There is a huge difference in using drugs like morphine or MJ for pain relief vs recreationally. If one cannot see the difference then there is no point in arguing the issue as no minds will be changed.
The medical MJ system is definitely being abused as anyone with $100 in their pocket can get a medical MJ card. But the same is true of many other regulated systems such as disability, food stamps and countless other programs. People will always find ways to scam systems that have been set up for good purposes.
As a reasonable person I cannot understand with the hundreds of millions of people around the world using MJ for the past 50 years there hasn't been more data on its harm. That relationship has definitely been established with smoking and countless other chemicals which leads me to believe that the actual harm is minor or non-existant. If someone can replace oxycodin or vicodine with MJ and it works for them; then that seems like a good thing.

If our PCa treatment fails I doubt that Mayo Clinic, or Anderson, or ______ (fill in the blank/take your pick), will be recommending cannabis for us. When I saw just under 10 doctors for PCa not one of them ever suggested marijuana as a helpful drug for PCa.

As I said, I live in a place where marijuana is illegal so no one with cancer is going to get it legally here. If someone wants to get it off a street pusher and feels it will help them I can't stop them can I? If I could I would. I don't like to see anyone harmed by dangerous drugs. I've seen what drug dealers do to lives up close. It isn't pretty.

John I believe there is plenty of medical literature showing the harm of cannabis. There are plenty of studies showing smoking marijuana is more harmful that smoking cigarettes. I find it odd that on a cancer forum some seem to be defending/promoting a known carcinogen.

Recently the national news has been reporting on Vets under VA care, dying on over prescribed pain meds while following Dr.s orders. Buddy, what is your feelings on that subject? I have not seen any deaths reported, or anything negative for that matter, on the use of MM. Is there any way I can respectfully open your mind?
