Looking for any recommendations for good surgeons in Dallas or Houston area. Urologist gave one in Dallas but need more to consider.

You may want to look into M D Anderson in Houston. I have read good things about there although I have no experience with them. I wish you well in your journey.

How about the New Orleans area? My doc did his fellowship at M. D. Anderson.

I had David Shepherd MD as my surgeon at USMD Arlington and he did his Oncology fellowship at MD Anderson . GO to USMD Cancer Center at Arlington website and click on his bio. , James

Thanks for replies. Must be in Dallas or Houston area. At this point looking at USMD in Arlington. Have been unable to get much info on Houston area surgeons.

My husband's urologist/surgeon was Dr. John Ward in Houston for his RP surgery in July of 2011.  Dr. Ward is great!

Dr. John Ward is a urologist/surgeon at MD Anderson in Houston.  I forgot to mention that he is at MD Anderson.

It is not difficult to get an appointment with MD Anderson/Houston. You can call their number 1-855-873-4321 or request an appointment on their website. You will need to fax them paperwork regarding past tests/doctors notes and then they will call you back with an appointment. You can also get your doctor to request an appointment if you don't want to do it yourself. I found that it was quicker for me to do it.

I know you have asked about the DaVinci surgeons so it seems you have chosen that route. Mind if I ask why? Initially that was my choice as well, but on reconsideration I may be going with SBRT (Cyberknife).

Picked Dr. Cadeddu for my upcoming RARP on Dec 5th. He did his internship and residencies at Hopkins, has co-authored papers with Walsh and Partin, apparently has around 200 published papers on urologic surgery, many of them dealing with minimally invasive techniques, and is chair of minimally invasive surgery (urology) at UTSW. He'd done 611 RARPs as of a few weeks ago, and he did laparoscopic and open for years before that. He got to the robotic party late because he thought it was overhyped and had no demonstrable improvement of outcomes. Switched to it reluctantly because everybody wants it. Now does about 6 RARPs per week plus a lot of kidney work robotically. First surgeon to remove a kidney via the belly button. UTSW's urology dept. is ranked 21st nationally and is the highest ranked in Texas and surrounding states by US News. Bottom line for us was he's incredibly knowledgeable, spent a lot of time with us and inspired a lot of confidence. Good sense of humor, too. Other guys I've gotten recommendations for are Dr. Roehrborn at UTSW, and Dr. Lee at USMD in Arlington.   Good luck with your choice--picking the surgeon has been the hardest part of the whole deal for us so far.

Hello Coasting and welcome to HW. Obviously you have already received some answers to your original question. However, Steven Kimball asks a really good question. Most of the time with new members we suggest that they look at multiple options and multiple doctors before pulling the trigger. Perhaps you have already done that.

Also, if you are interested in some good advice from knowledgeable folks on this forum you may want to tell us a little more about yourself like, age, Gleason score, PSA, etc. You can easily do this by creating a "signature" and checking the box to include it with you posts.

I appreciate any info. My urologist talked about seeds & surgery. My feeling is I want it removed. Have not seen much about cyber knife. I am 60, psa 5, Gleason 6. Don't have report with me right now. My 2010 psa was 1.99. Dr did not do another psa until July 2013. Repeated psa in sept. biopsy 2 weeks ago.

I hope all comes out well for you. Let us know how you progress, and remember, drink lots of water, and get walking as often as you are up to it. No marathons, but get moving.
