Yes, I understand that Logo was a traffic controller and assume that pilots could understand him; then he went "native" and haven't been able to understand what language!

Gunfighter, maybe its the strict adherence to phraseology, detail, and general mental force, the position pressed on my physche, now absent for 8 years, that allows all the words I use to structure from the impetus of the daily situations, to flow more care freely. Not really caring who understands other than one solitary reader. And there is always one. But we all make mistakes, I just learned to correct them quickly and safely in ATC, like an arrow into a still pool, nary a ripple. My Pca communication skills are adequate to the task, tho with ripple, swells and sometime's surf.

Being an ATC was one of several careers I had considered in my youth. I liked being in complex, multi-dimensional tasks, plus I like anything to do with transportation in general. While hardly the same thing, but in my positions of Controller or CFO in various manufacturing plants, my peers would joke about us being like ATC guys, keeping 50 plates spinning at the same time with a stick, and being constantly interrupted from our "normal" work to take care of endless and multiple problems developing all the time. It was the kind of stress that I enjoyed when I worked.

I'm not a controller but I'm an ILS TID for the FAA. Been with them since 1987. For the non FAA types ILS = instrument landing system. Extra points for whomever can figure out FAA jargon for TID :)

Crazyick or should I call you Technician In Depth? Couldn't resist. I'm retiriing in January after 35+ years as an ATCS at ZDC. What part of the country are you in?

Boo man did you know crazy Timothy Boikin transferred fro Maui, finally got out on a mental. ZDC for those that care, a major control center and one of the busiest in the nation in DC of course. Wouldn't want to work that traffic with shrimp boats. You checked on Halloween my time.
Crazyrack. Most folks have a TID, if Im right Its actually a rather new Acronym, Touch interactive device. I got too many points am connecting right now, so no need extra, awreddy.
TC, thats your magnum name, here, enjoy Oahu, if you walk or jog for exercise, try the walk from hotel on Kalakakua ave , when you get ocean side stay close to ocean and head for diamond head and walk around it. 5-6 miles R/T.

So it was technician in depth, new one to me, I knew a lot of techs never heard them called that. I know what techs called controllers, but it would get bleeped, lol. I almost went Technician in…., er never mind, with Crazy in your name, you probably get it tho.

The 'TID' position is normally a second level engineering position so the controllers at a tower would not normally hear that term. We would look and act (mostly) like a normal technician. Oh and yes I'm aware of the special names used for AT by tech ops turn

For the first six months of my FAA life I worked at ny center. But now I'm based out of Melville, Long Island. I provide second level support to JFK, Laguardia, and Newark airports along with all the other satellite airports in the NY/NJ area.

crazyick, I worked towers, tracons and centers, still never heard that particular acronym. Lord knows the
amount of them, FAA has a special publication for them. But as a controller, I would be more familiar with ATC ones. To me you guys , were either a radar tech, or a communication or navaid tech. I certainly appreciated the work you guys did. I envied all the tdy y'all got to OKC, I instructed there for a year right after I retired. Good fun, and loved all the restaurants there. I even liked the wx, thos t storms and lightening were amazing. Never saw a tornado, thank you.

Before I became a ILS TID I was a navaids tech working on the following acronyms ( yes the FAA has a million of them) ILS (loc, gs, mm, om) vortac/dme/rtr/rcag.

I think I've lost count on the amount of trips to the academy in OKC! Did you instruct on the AT side of the house at the academy?

Okay, I'm going to stop with the FAA jargon for now! :)

I did indeed, I had worked al the options in the atc field. its ok the post has my name on it, thanks hero, you are my… never mind! Anyway did 2 tours at okc 6 mos apiece different time in 06 and 07. I was one who needed to wean away from work to retirement. Plus the pay was very good. since I was a teacher hired by OU, who had the faa contract at the time, I was eligible for 403b. It was a sweet deal. Cant' remember if you are retired, since you are close. Something you might want to look into , if you get bored. It was good fun working with the young ones, tho in your field it would be of all ages I reckon. All you acronyms are very recognizable. Take care
