If this was a scoreboard, would it say: ELKS 1 TODD 0? Such is the life of hunters, I hear my brother, the only hunter in the family say the same things some years during deer season.

But isn't half the fun just being out there in the wilds? Better luck next year.

Todd, we need to work on your excuses. Something more like,
"This year it was really about spending time with my father and getting back the basics of hunting. With all the treatments the last couple of years my skills were getting a bit rusty so I focused more on basic woodcraft and stalking skills. In that regard the trip was a success."

Or,

"The elk were really small this year so I decided wait until they were bigger next year before bagging one."

Come on dude, you're a married man, you should have better excuses right at your finger tips.

It was a very good time. I really enjoyed myself. I wore the soles off a pair of boots and have much to write about on my blog. First I need to rest. I was able to spend good quality time with my dad mom daughter and even climbed a mountain with my wife one day. She found a 5 point shed from a bull elk on that trip and proudly displayed it on our mantle. Not complaining guys.... just saying I won't be eating elk steak this year. I don't mind eating a tag but they don't digest very well now that they are plastic instead of paper. Todd

I hunted elk and buffalo this year and did very well.

Look at the bright side in 17 days you will be getting on a GFMPH cruise ship and meeting for the first time 28 new friends that will last a lifetime. That Elk you missed is no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

We have two real issues in s.w. Washington. The elk herd has been plagued with hoof rot....also lnown as thrush. The mortality rate is ugly. Some speculate that the herbicide they use to kill the brush in the clearcuts is causing it. It is rumored to have two of the active chemicals in agent orange .. In the last few years they have also issued 3 times the amount of cow permits as in years passed. Translation ..... smaller elk population. I heard about that Bert. Its just hard for me to go too far from home. Not too worried about eating my tag..... it is just a pride thing. That and I really will miss the summer sausage and pepperoni. Todd

Good thing you didn't bag any Elk, you do not want to eat anything that has been exposed to anything like Agent Orange. It has been proven that Agent Orange can cause prostate cancer, so not bagging one is GFMPH.
